One of the primary psychological and political mechanisms for engineering mass compliance is by government and media invoking the concept of “the greater good” as a formalised system of peer pressure among populations, and by framing any dissent against it as selfish behaviour bent on doing harm to the collective. This method has been used successfully by communist and other oppressive regimes throughout history. It was no surprise then, that when the ‘global pandemic’ narrative was launched in early 2020, that governments and mainstream media quickly began tailoring their propaganda and psychological messaging to suit this collectivist paradigm.
