This week: Western governments recognitions of a Palestinian state as largely symbolic unless backed by actions to stop Israel’s campaign in Gaza. At the UN, President Trump unleashes his most stupid diatribe yet (and that’s saying something) as he mindlessly repeats the Israeli talking point and U.S. policy of blaming Hamas while ignoring Israeli responsibility and its 10,000 Palestinian detainees, while accuses Israel (with U.S. cover) of pursuing demolition and “urban renewal” in Gaza. So far, 156 countries have recognized a Palestinian state, with the most significant recent recognitions came from the UK and France, but the many recognitions hollow unless those governments enforce international law and allow aid into Gaza.
