SUNDAY SCREENING: ‘Forgotten Island – Paragliding in Socotra’ (2012)

Our weekly documentary film is curated by the editorial team at 21WIRE.

This is a stunning film about a group of professional paragliding test pilots who sought to explore the remote and rarely visited island of Socotra, part of Yemen. This was filmed four years prior to the US and Saudi-led, unprovoked war of aggression against Yemen initiated by US President Barack Obama in March 2025. Currently, Socotra is occupied by the UAE, backed by the US and British militaries, as they plan to turn this eighth wonder of the world into a giant military outpost to dominate regional waterways and protect the Zionist project in Israel. Nonetheless, this paragliding team shows their journey up to 1000m over the Indian Ocean, battling 40 km winds, and flying from the longest caves found in the region. Socotra remains a unique sanctuary for fauna and flora with beautiful distinct landscapes – one of the few remaining flying secrets left on earth from before the present conflict. Watch:
