France’s President Emmanuel Macron got slapped in the face on Monday by a man in a crowd of people who came to see the French leader during his visit to the village of Tain-l’Hermitage in southeastern France.
According to a report of the incident, the man shouted “Montjoie! Saint Denis!” and then something that sounded like “Down with Macron” before being tackled by Macron’s security detail.

Macron has been campaigning across the country ahead of the June regional elections, as political tensions have burst at the seams after multiple COVID-inspired lockdowns of the French people.
A recent poll suggests the 2022 presidential race is also starting to heat up – with Macron’s opposition challenger, Marine Le Pen, “hot on his heels.”
