As Europe and the UK begin to panic about its ‘special relationship’ with the United States under Trump, the question arises about whether or not Britain really has an independent nuclear deterrent. After a closer inspection on this issue. it turns out that the UK nuclear umbrella is anything but independent.
So now that the current government is viewing Washington is potentially an ‘unreliable’ ally, ministers and policy wonks are now wanting to revisit Westminster’s nuclear strategy. But it turns out there are no easy solutions, only problems.

“Britain is a nuclear power, but even a cursory examination of that claim shows that it’s far from an independent nuclear power, reliant on foreign-manufactured and maintained missiles and worn-out ballistic missile submarines that should have been replaced by new boats long ago.
