It’s official: FBI Director Christopher Wray has officially resigned.
According to official reports, embattled FBI Director Christopher Wray, whose actions have targeted the former president in an effort to knock him out of the 2024 presidential election, has read the tea leaves and appears to have arranged a hasty exit, resigning before Donald Trump takes office – when Wray is almost certain to be fired by the incoming Administration.
The president-elect welcomed Wray’s announcement in a social media post, calling it “a great day for America.”
Wray made the announcement during a packed town hall with FBI employees at the bureau’s headquarters on Wednesday, which was also live streamed to regional offices.

Mr. Wray made the disclosure while addressing employees Wednesday afternoon, according to two people familiar with the meeting. Mr. Wray added that he wanted to keep the focus on the bureau’s work.
The announcement comes after Mr. Trump said in late November that he intended to nominate Kash Patel, a longtime loyalist, to run the F.B.I., and more than two years before Mr. Wray’s 10-year term would have expired.
Over more than seven years, Mr. Wray oversaw one of the most consequential and tumultuous periods in the bureau’s history, juggling high-profile criminal investigations of political figures, heated congressional inquiries and two attempted assassinations of Mr. Trump.
Trump had appointed Wray during his first term, following the exit of disgraced FBI director James Comey.
Wray, a former federal prosecutor and counterterrorism official, fell out of favor with the Trump camp following the FBI’s raiding of Trump’s home during the 2024 election cycle. It is believed that Trump plans to replace him with loyalist Kash Patel, a former GOP congressional staffer and attorney who was targeted by the Deep State as part of the FBI’s elaborate Russiagate hoax. As a top investigator on the House Intelligence Committee, Patel also helped to expose Hillary Clinton funding of the notorious Steele dossier used to smear Trump, and trigger the FBI’s unlawful wiretapping and surveillance of Trump officials.
