Henningsen: New Obama ‘Arms to Al Qaeda’ deal will prolong the violence in Syria

This week, the momentum in Syria shifted dramatically as the Syrian Army liberated of the Old City in eastern Aleppo, so far retaking 80% of ‘rebel’-held areas in the city. In 2016, US President Barack Obama allocated at least $500 million in US taxpayer funds to ‘train and equip (arm)’ the so-called “moderate rebels” in Syria through the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). On his way out the door, he’s upgraded that arrangement to waive any restrictions on weapons to militants in Syria.
