This week, the western media has been in shock, with scenes depicting the wreckage of a Saudi F-15 fighter jet which Yemen’s ruling Ansar Allah government, aka “The Houthis”, has shot down over Yemen. The US-made aircraft was “downed using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile” as it “conducted hostile operations” over the Marib region, according to a Houthi statement on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has lost its ability to export oil, as Ansar Allah has taken out Saudi’s Red Sea petroline bypass network in recent weeks. Saudi asked the US for military, but Trump has flatly refused – leaving the Gulf monarch high and dry. What are real the forces driving these events? What comes next? All this and more.
