As China and Vietnam celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China, wrote a letter for Nhan Dan of Viet Nam, ahead of his visit to Vietnam. The beautifully written letter was also published on the website of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is titled “Building on Past Achievements and Making New Advances In Pursuit of Shared Goals.” Xi was invited by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnam President Luong Cuong, who greeted him this morning on the tarmac of the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.
Xi is accompanied by Cai Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the committee’s Secretariat and Chief of the committee’s Office; Wang Yi, Politburo member, Director of the Office of the CPC Central Committee’s Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wang Xiaohong, Minister of Public Security; Liu Jianchao, head of the CPC Central Committee’s International Liaison Commission; Dong Jun, Minister of National Defence; and other officials. Following this state-level visit, Xi plans to visit Malaysia and Cambodia from Tuesday to Friday—countries that have seen growing trade and investment ties with China in recent years. Xi Jinping has called on Vietnam to work with China to enhance multilateral trade as he embarks on a significant diplomatic tour of key export-driven economies in the region, seeking to position China as a reliable ally in contrast to the United States. In response to the disruptions from Trump’s tariff policies, Xi is expected to promote China as a dependable partner and advocate for global trade. Before being suspended, Vietnam and Cambodia were particularly impacted by Trump’s tariffs, which reached 46% and 49%, respectively.

Xi urges China, Vietnam to deepen building of community with a shared future
BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua) — Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Monday that China and Vietnam should strengthen their efforts on all fronts to build the China-Vietnam community with a shared future, and contribute more to peace, stability, development and prosperity in Asia and the world at large.
Xi made the remarks in a signed article titled “Building on past achievements and making new advances in pursuit of shared goals.” The article was published on Monday by the Nhan Dan Newspaper of Vietnam ahead of his state visit to the Southeast Asian country.
Xi said building the China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance serves the common interests of the two countries and is conducive to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and beyond.
He called for deepening strategic mutual trust and advancing the socialist cause, continuing win-win cooperation and delivering more benefit to the two peoples, strengthening people-to-people exchanges and forging a closer bond between the two peoples, as well as enhancing multilateral collaboration and promoting Asia’s prosperity and revitalization.
The Chinese leader warned that trade war and tariff war will produce no winner, and protectionism will lead nowhere.
“Our two countries should resolutely safeguard the multilateral trading system, stable global industrial and supply chains, and open and cooperative international environment,” he added.
“We should properly manage differences and safeguard peace and stability in our region,” Xi said
“The successful delimitation of our boundaries on land and in the Beibu Gulf demonstrates that with vision, we are fully capable of properly settling maritime issues through consultation and negotiation.”
