SUNDAY SCREENING: ‘NITROGEN 2000 The Dutch Farmers’ Struggle’ (2023)

Small cattle farmers make up approximately 70% of Holland’s agriculture. In 2019, this was threatened as the Dutch government under direction from the European Union engaged in environmental policies leading to a potential 50% forced buyout of their land. This amounts to a nationalization of a third of the territory of Holland. They are coupled with reducing food production by 30% to reach climate change Net Zero targets under the directions set by the World Economic Forum and United Nations. The pressure is on large-scale protests are underway across Europe, with France and Germany among the countries facing similar mandates. The question is whether farmers will be able to resist this encroachment. Watch:
