Security Threat: Police Concerned With STAR TREK Fans

21st Century Wire says…

No, this story is not a joke.

Watch a video of this report here:

British police were apparently concerned that fans of Sci-Fi shows like Star Trek could have started a cult, revolted against society causing anarchy, instigated cyber-attacks or committed suicide.

Fans of Star Trek, the X Files, Dark Skies and Roswell were considered potential security threats.

Security officials believed the turn of the millennium could have been the point at which the gloves would come off for Sci-Fi fans.

The Telegraph reports that, “An undated confidential report to the Metropolitan Police, thought to have been filed around 1998-99, listed concerns about conspiracy theorists who believed the end of the world was nigh.” (see article below)

“Fuel is added to the fire by television dramas and feature films mostly produced in America,” the report said.

According to Metropolitan Police Special Branch, “conspiracy theorists” who believed the ‘end of the world was nigh’ were thought to be fueled by television dramas and feature films mostly produced in America. The central concern was the ‘devotion certain groups and individuals ascribe to the contents of these programmes.

The official dossier was entitled ‘UFO New Religious Movements and the Millennium‘, and is thought to be a response to the 1997 Heaven’s Gate mass suicide cult.

While a suicide cult is no joke, the thought that Sci-Fi fans could cause mass societal anarchy is tending towards ridiculous.

A police spokesperson had this to say: “We have no knowledge of this.”

But, the truth is out there. Far out there...

But the police feared British fans of the cult American show might boldly go a little too far one day.

It has emerged that Scotland Yard kept a secret dossier on Star Trek, The X-Files, and other US sci fi shows amid fears that British fans would go mad and kill themselves, turn against society or start a weird cult.

The American TV shows Roswell and Dark Skies and the film The Lawnmower Man were also monitored to protect the country from rioting and cyber attacks.
