INTERVIEW: Freddie Ponton – ‘Africa: A Senegal Coup?’

Senegal: Institutional coup or electoral imperialism?

In this episode of the Patrick Henningsen Show on TNT Radio which aired on February 7, 2024, Patrick talks with independent French researcher and journalist Freddie Ponton, about the recent decision by Senegalese MP’s to postpone the presidential election which has raised domestic but also international concerns. Freddie goes on to explain how the current political crisis in Senegal, that many have called an “institutional coup”, is the product of the dispute between the National Assembly and the Constitutional Council as well as an effort to remove powerful opposition leaders such as in-prisoned Ousmane Sonko and Karim Wade. Freddie also takes the opportunity to outline few geopolitical point in relation to Senegal relationship with France, Russia, Ukraine China and the US and talks about Senegal food security. All this and more.
