Following a series of radioactive explosions at Japan’s Fukushima nuclear plant this past week, authorities have confirmed that large amounts of radioactive particles were released directly into the atmosphere, and are blowing easterly towards the U.S. and later due to hit Europe and Russia.
If this worries you, be rest assured that you are not alone. Certain questions linger like, “how much radiation is considered dangerous?”, and “how can nuclear fallout contaminate our food and water supplies?”… These questions are not so easy and straightforward to answer, but you can at least get yourself informed- a process which will enable you to make your own evaluation of the potential risks. Risk assessment is not an exact science, it’s merely an educated guess.
If you live in an industrialised nation, radiation is unfortunately a part of your life.
