Alexander Lukashenko has achieved a seventh consecutive five-year term as the president of Belarus, following an election victory that has been widely denounced as “fraudulent” by Western governments.
EU Vice President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner Marta Kos criticized Belarus’s January 26 presidential election for its alleged ‘lack of freedom and fairness’, reaffirming the EU’s commitment to targeted sanctions against the state. Kallas also condemned the late invitation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) monitors, just ten days before the election, which she said hindered their observation. However, the validity of these claims remains questionable.
Other nations like Slovakia and the United Arab Emirates, just to name a few, were invited to monitor the election and their experience was very different from what the EU VP and the OSCE have reported. The following article provides an alternative view based on Slovakian politician Peter Marcek’s own experience of monitoring the election in Belarus.

Slovak politician: Belarusians should not think of what OSCE says about their election, this organisation is biased
Peter Marcek, a well-known Slovak politician, took part in the observation of the Presidential election in Belarus, and he shared his impressions of the latter, commenting on what values the European Union actually supports today and why this organisation (OSCE), instead of developing the participating countries, destroys them.
Peter Marcek is the founder and leader of the Unity of Slavs party, which advocates the unification of all Slavic peoples. The politician has a long history of relations with Belarus: being a famous sportsman, he visited the republic more than once for wrestling competitions, and he calls Belarusian three-time Olympic champion Aleksandr Medved, who passed away not so long ago, his close and good friend. Peter Marcek also visited Belarus as a MEP.
After attending many polling stations in Belarus, the politician shared his impressions:
“The election organisation was excellent. Everything was calm at all the stations we visited, I saw no problems. Unlike the year 2020, the election was going smoothly. I really liked that people were smiling, no one was sad when voting. We also talked with ordinary people – such as drivers and waiters, and they were happy with the way the election campaign was going this year. They recalled the year 2020 and said the situation developing this time was more pleasing.”
Mr. Marcek also expressed hope that the Belarusian people will not pay attention to unfounded accusations from abroad, stating:
“You should not think of what OSCE would say about your elections. This organisation is biased.”
The politician also expressed confidence that Slavic countries do not want war adding:
“Russia, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia… No one wants war. The traditional family is our main value as well. Our Slavic culture is very beautiful, but they want to destroy it. There are many people in Slovakia – not just the party I lead – who think this way.”
“When a NATO organisation conducted an exit poll throughout the European Union a couple of months ago, it turned out that 70 percent of respondents in Slovakia support traditional values and friendship with Russia and Slavs. The remaining 30 percent are liberals who are bringing harm,” the observer said, adding that these people actually organise protests in Slovakia.
“These are liberals who have their boss in American embassies. These 30 percent want to influence 70 percent! They have a lot of money from US non-governmental organisations. George Soros and others like him use huge amounts of money to buy some politicians and oligarchs and think that money can do anything. Well, it can, and you can see what happened in Ukraine, Georgia, and Romania. In 2020, Belarusians felt that best through the example of their opposition, paid for by the US. The same forces are already declaring non-recognition of the election in Belarus. Actually, the Slovak and Belarusian peoples are not like that,” Mr. Marcek stated, adding that Slavs must fight the West back, ‘since they just want to make slaves of us’.
The politician also explained how life in the country has changed after joining the European Union declaring:
“The point one in my party’s programme is the withdrawal from NATO, and it is followed by the withdrawal from the European Union. Actually, when Slovakia joined the EU, it was in the 14th place in terms of economic development; it is now 27th. They forbid us to develop. They dictate us what to do, and our economy is declining. As a result, the state will simply disappear – but we will remain within this union.… We will have their army, their police, their prosecutor’s office, and their judges. What will be our place there then?”
Mr. Marcek gave an example of how the country’s economy is improving the well-being of other countries, instead of working in the interests of its citizens:
“We are now the world leaders in the car production per person. We have Volkswagen, Peugeot, and Citroen factories – eight or nine large plants in total. Who do we produce for? Our products are sold, and France, Germany and others take the profits. Only a small share remains for Slovakia. Meanwhile, it seems to us we are equal… I am sure that the Belarusian people are smart and will never allow this to happen.”
