SUNDAY SCREENING: ‘The Disappearing Male’ (2008)

Our weekly documentary film courtesy of the editorial team at 21WIRE.

This important film is about one of the most important, and least publicized issues facing the human species today: the toxic threat to the male reproductive system. “We are conducting a vast toxicological experiment in which our children and our children’s children are the experimental subjects.” Dr. Herbert Needleman chronicles how over the last few decades have seen a steady and dramatic increase in the incidence of boys and young men suffering from genital deformities, low sperm counts, and even worse: sperm abnormalities and testicular cancer. At the same time, boys are now far more at risk of suffering from ADHD, autism, Tourette Syndrome, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia. The film takes a close and disturbing look at what many doctors and researchers now suspect is responsible for many of these problems: a class of common chemicals that are now ubiquitous in our world. They are found in every product you can possibly imagine – plastic bottles, shampoo, suglasses, processed food, drinks, carpet, synthetic fabric and more. It is a process called “hormone mimicking” and it’s threatening the survival of life on the planet Earth. But is anyone paying attention? Watch:

Written and directed by Marc De Guerre
