US Senator’s Plan to Place Troops in Ukraine to Deter Future Russian Advances

In an effort to stave off further Russian advances, a close ally of President Biden, Democrat US Senator Chris Coons, has proposed a new plan to place US troops inside of Ukraine. During a recent interview with CBS News, he said, “The American people cannot turn away from this tragedy in Ukraine.”

After the dramatic defeat of NATO’s proxy forces in Mariupol, Democrat war hawks now fear they are ‘losing’ the war in Ukraine.

“I think the history of the 21st century turns on how fiercely we defend freedom in Ukraine and that Putin will only stop when we stop him.

Sen. Coons is warning that a failure for America to act now will somehow make Ukraine ‘become the Syria of Eastern Europe.’\

“If Vladimir Putin, who has shown us how brutal he can be, is allowed to just continue to massacre civilians, to commit war crimes throughout Ukraine without NATO, without the West coming more forcefully to his aid, I deeply worry that what’s going to happen next is that we will see Ukraine turn into Syria,” added Coons.

The irony of that statement is that by placing US troops inside of Ukraine it would make the situation similar to Syria, but not in the way Sen. Coons is suggesting.

Indeed, that irony is well understood by anyone who has watched the illegal US occupation in northeastern Syria. Since 2017, the US has embedded between 500 and 2000 troops and personnel (the numbers have fluctuated) inside of Syria in order occupy Syria’s oil fields and to steal and export their oil, under a completely bogus public-facing guise of “fighting ISIS.”

As with Syria, any official US military presence inside of Ukraine (unofficially, there are at least hundreds of American military and intelligence personnel already active inside the country working in various capacities) would be used by Washington and NATO as a type of a casus belli – not necessarily to provoke a war with Russia, but rather designed to deter Russia from striking any US controlled areas and thus avoid a direct military confrontation between Russia and US-NATO.

Whether this would serve as a successful deterrent against striking resident US targets as it has in Syria – is debatable, to say the least. After all, Russia has already issued a formal warning to any NATO nation who is thinking of directly interfering militarily in Russia’s “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine. Moreover, Russia also sent an official diplomatic note to the United States this past week requesting that it cease and desist the supplies of arms and military equipment to Ukraine.

Senator Coon’s remarks come just days after a speech delivered to the University of Michigan, where he stated that the US must become directly involved militarily, because failure to intervene now would mean, “we are inviting another level of escalation in brutality by Putin.”

It’s a familiar Washington script. Just substitute “Putin’s brutality” (like the recent likely staged ‘massacre’ in the town of Bucha) with “Saddam’s WMDs.”

Here we go again?
