Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced that he will not run for Speaker of the House again after being ousted on Tuesday in an effort spearheaded by conservative Republican Party member Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
The issue begin to unravel last week when partisan camps were brought to loggerheads over the inability to get a consensus on how to fund the bankrupt US Federal Government.
The issue of continued funding of some $25 billion for Zelensky in Ukraine became a wedge issue, and McCarthy appeared to not honor his pledges to Rep. Gaetz and other members of the Freedom Caucus during his nomination process earlier this year.
According to McCarthy’s office, he has indicated that he would not run for the speaker’s chair again when the new list of nominees is drafted later this week.

McCarthy was removed following a motion to vacate the speakers chair, as 216 members of the House voted No, to just 210 in favor of keeping him as US House Speaker.
Historically, the House of Representatives has never removed a speaker, and hasn’t held a floor vote on removing a speaker in well over a century.
The unfortunate sequence of events makes him the shortest-serving speaker since 1876.
