Obama Wants Boy Scouts to End Ban on Gays, But Won’t Investigate Pedophilia

While America is glued to the Super Bowl, Obama is busy mulling over other similarly interesting issues, as well his game ball.

21st Century Wire says… Of all the truly pivotal issues facing the nation and the world at this time – the Super Bowl notwithstanding, President Obama seems to feel very strongly on one in particular – he apparently wants to the Boy Scouts to be more ‘progressive’ and include more gays throughout its ranks. Read whatever you will into this latest move by the White House, but it could certainly be classed as a rather odd motion by a White House that should have other, more burning issues on its seemingly endless plate…

Now we are well aware of the sensitivity of taking on this issue, and we are by no means drawing any correlation between the presence of gays and the exposure of pedophiles in any institution – the issue is much more complex than that. But the President should really know better – if he hopes to comb in cheap political points for his party’s tin trophy case for the next election by ‘leaning forward’ (ref. to MSNBC, and Chris Mathews et all for their sad collectivist ad campaign) on this particular issue. There is a much bigger ‘confidence issue’ with the Boy Scouts that needs to be sorted out first…

Based on recent events within the Boys Scouts itself, it appears that Obama’s timing is slightly off on this one… and insensitive, to say the least.

First ask this question: Is there institutional child abuse or pedophilia present in the Boy Scouts organisation? And the rest…

Dear Mr President,

You might do well to remember what the Boys Scouts has sadly become over the years: a honey pot for adult male pedophiles hoping to practice gay sex abuse against young boys. Most recently, more than 20,000 confidential Boy Scout documents were released identifying more than 1,000 leaders and volunteers who have now been banned after being accused of sexual or inappropriate conduct with boys. What’s worse, like with Penn State, the BBC and the Vatican – it was covered up. Sounds like they have a problem there at the Boy Scouts, and an institutional one at that.

So, one should be allowed to ask – throughout its 100 year history, approximately how many young boys were abused whilst passing through this institution? In some documented cases, a pedophile can routinely groom some 300 different victims throughout his active years. A frightening prospect, especially for countless generations of American parents.

One attorney who was helping to handle this massive case said the abuse allegedly inflicted on the men as boys… “has a corrosive effect” in which things like trust, relationship and sexuality issues… develop with adulthood.”

In light of recent revelations, and before using the Boys Scouts to win some niche demographic for future House and Senate seats, maybe it would be more prudent that The President should first be forming a Federal Commission to study and even investigate in-depth, the disturbing institutional pedophilia in the Boy Scouts organisation?

– Kind Regards

Many self-styled ‘progressives’ may applaud Obama’s latest stunt to curry favour with the gay lobby, or whoever (we are not exactly sure here who is the direct political beneficiary of such a move), but before he starts campaigning for gays in the Boy Scouts, Obama and his fellow parents might do well to perhaps take a good hard look at this damaged brand – and put a huge magnifying glass on it first. Why was it started in the first place and what ‘American values’ exactly is it representing at present?

Straight, gay or otherwise, the Boy Scouts should be able to choose whoever they wish, but watching Obama use the Boy Scouts in this manner – to score political points points in the face of a cover-up, invites the public to revisit the failings of this institution.

President Obama Says the Boy Scouts should end its ban on gays…

Philip Rucker
Washington Post

President Obama said Sunday that the Boy Scouts of America should end its ban on gay members and Scout leaders.

With the venerable national organization weighing whether to lift its prohibition on gays, Obama was asked in a Super- Bowl pregame interview with CBS’s Scott Pelley whether the Boy Scouts should be open to gays.

Obama gave a one-word answer: “Yes.”

Pressed to elaborate, the president said, “I think that my attitude is that gays and lesbians should have access and opportunity the same way everybody else does in every institution and walk of life.”

Last August the White House said Obama disagreed with the Boy Scouts’ ban on gay members, but Sunday’s interview was the first time Obama publicly addressed the issue since the Boy Scouts said last week it would consider lifting the ban.

Boy Scouts leaders are expected to discuss lifting the ban on gays at its national executive board meeting this week in Texas.

On Saturday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a Republican presidential candidate in 2012, spoke to a group of Texas Scouts and urged the organization to maintain its policies prohibiting openly gay members.

“Hopefully the board will follow their historic position of keeping the Scouts strongly supportive of the values that make scouting this very important and impactful organization,” Perry said, according to the Associated Press.

Perry, a former Eagle Scout, wrote a book in 2008 titled “On My Honor: Why the American Values of the Boy Scouts Are Worth Fighting For.”
