Amid Many Rumors, Justin Trudeau Steps Down as Canada’s PM – Why Now?

This week Justin Trudeau, who has served as Canada’s prime minister for almost a decade, announced that he would stepping down in the coming months, as millions of Canadian votes voice their anger at the PM’s inability to address serious economic issues which have cratered the country’s growth projections, leading to political inevitable political infighting in Ottawa’s increasingly fractured Leftwing. As a result, Canada’s parliament will be suspended until March 24th.

The 53-year-old PM announced he would step down as leader of the country’s ruling Liberal Party, which he has led since 2013.

“It’s time for a reset,” said Trudeau, adding that, “I truly feel that removing the contention around my own continued leadership is an opportunity to bring the temperature down.”

According to the numbers released last month by Ipsos, some 73% of Canadians, including 43% of Liberal voters — said that Trudeau should step down as party leader.

Trudeau’s surprise exit comes amid many rumors as to why he’s jumping ship now.

Many Canadian pundits believe the announcement is a preemptive move to avoid having to face an incoming Trump administration that has vowed to impose crippling tariffs on Canadian imports. In a bizarre social media post on Christmas Day, president-elect Trump also threatened that the US could take control of Canada, as well as Greenland and the Panama Canal.

The highly unpopular Trudeau was already teetering on a dubious mandate after the last general election, especially after alienating large sections of the electorate over authoritarian Covid lockdown measures and unpopular vaccine mandates. His short-sighted Covid policies are directly credited for the country’s devastating spike in inflation, economic contraction, and chronic unemployment problem.

Trudeau also received significant blowback for his support for extremist globalist programs including his government’s macabre promotion of the controversial medically-assisted suicide program, his disturbingly fascist-like ‘hate speech’ bill, and an almost cult-like commitment to a ‘Net Zero’ agenda which many believe could ultimately bankrupt the country.

Other rumors regarding the PM’s personal life have been circulating following his divorce last year from his spouse of 18 years, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau. It is believed that their split was the result of an extramarital affair, but the issue was kept under wraps. There has also been some speculation about Trudeau’s sexuality, although such allegation still remain unproven. As a self-declared “proud feminist“,  he voiced his public disapproval of American voters’ failure to choose Kamala Harris as their first women president in 2024. Over the years, many Canadians have been taken aback by the flamboyant PM’s extreme progressive posturing – marked by an apparent obsession with LGBT and trans issues, including his highly publicized attendance at gay pride marches, as well as appearances with transsexual performers, and his appearances at gay bars.

Among Trudeau’s replacements for Liberal Party leadership are former governor of the Bank of England and arch-globalist, Mark Carney, and the controversial Chrystia Freeland, whose recent resignation as finance minister and deputy prime minister is said to have precipitated the current crisis.

In her public resignation letter, Freeland cited Trump’s threats of tariffs on Canadian goods, and accused Trudeau of failing to address the “grave challenge” posed by Trump’s tariff wars.

Trudeau’s exit has also given a bounce to opposition, with Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre warning that, “nothing has changed” following Trudeau’s resignation.

“Every Liberal MP and Leadership contender supported EVERYTHING Trudeau did for 9 years, and now they want to trick voters by swapping in another Liberal face to keep ripping off Canadians for another 4 years, just like Justin,” Poilievre wrote on X.
