SUNDAY SCREENING: Crimea for Dummies (2014)

In March of 2014, the Crimean peninsula and Sevastopol city held a referendum which resulted in 96% of the citizens voting for reuniting with Russia. According to the western mainstream media and angry politicians, “Russia invaded Crimea” and “annexed Crimea by force.” Is this actually true? This film follows the journey of young American filmmaker, Miguel Francis-Santiago, who entered Crimea immediately after the referendum, as he gives a unique perspective on the history and culture of Crimea, in an effort to better understand its cultural and political connections to Ukraine and Russia.
