Patrick Henningsen Speaks at ‘Imperialism on Trial: Free Julian Assange’

In terms of press freedom, this is a dire moment in history. Currently, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is being held unlawfully in Britain’s maximum security Belmarsh prison – awaiting a US extradition for 17 superseding indictments alleging that he was complicit with Chelsea Manning, a former US Army intelligence analyst, in unlawfully obtaining and disclosing classified documents. The indictments maximum carry a prison sentence of 175 years in a US federal prison.

The following speech was given in support of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, at the event Imperialism on Trial, which took place on June 12, 2019, at the Crypt on the Green, Farringdon, London.

21st Century Wire founder and editor Patrick Henningsen:

“Julian Assange and WikiLeaks are a daily reminder of what they have done: what the state has done, what the media has covered up on behalf of the state (and will continue to do so) …. where millions of innocent people have been sacrificed at the unholy altar of profits, of IPOs, of preferred shares, no-bid contracts …. and the political appointments, and the gold-plated pensions. Or worse, sacrificed for a hollow, maudlin trope called ‘freedom and democracy’ … So what did Julian do? He held a mirror up to the Imperium, to this omnipotent establishment.”
