North of England Petitions to JOIN Scotland

21st Century Wire says…

Here’s another unexpected outcome from the recent British election.

Watch a video of this report here:

Over 42,000 thousand people have signed a petition calling the the North of England to secede from the UK and join an independent Scotland. It is widely understood that the reason the Scottish National Party (SNP) achieved such a sweeping victory, and the destruction of Labour in the process, is due to their adoption of an anti-austerity mandate. The economically weak North of England appears to favour that approach too.

This is how the petition reads:

The deliberations in Westminster are becoming increasingly irrelevant to the north of England. The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south.

The needs and challenges of the north cannot be understood by the endless parade of old Etonions lining the frontbenches of the House of Commons. The north of England should join the newly independent Scotland and regain control over its own destiny.

We, the people of the north, demand that in the event that Scotland becomes independent the border between England and the New Scotland be drawn along a line that runs between the River Dee and the mouth of The Humber.

Since destruction of both primary and secondary industry that was primarily found in the North of England, brought about by former Tory leader Margaret Thatcher and added to by successive governments, and the advent of neoliberal globalisation – an increasing disconnect between North and South has been present.

Therefore, it is understandable that people in already economically distressed North are looking to fight back. The Conservative government that promises only to deepen cuts, furthering their suffering and leaving them without any real hope for the future, will probably faces similar challenges in the future.

Interestingly, Cameron recently took issue with people having a ‘grievance’ with his government, and promises to crackdown on such individuals; even if they are obeying the law. Seriously.

Will Northerners be the first to face his wrath?

At the time of writing, more than 6,400 people had signed the petition.

The border between a ‘new Scotland’ and England would see cities including Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Hull, Leeds and Sheffield joining the newly-created country…
