PC Nightmare: White Lesbian Mom Sues Sperm Bank For Getting Black Sperm

21st Century Wire

From liberal, politically correct standpoint, this story could be called a real ‘conundrum’

In a true color-blind, rainbow society of equality and understanding, surely a 21st century same-sex couple would be more accepting of an innocent screw-up at the local sperm bank, right? Maybe not…

Lesbian mum Jennifer Cramblett, 36 yrs old, and her loving partner 29-year-old Amanda Zinkon, both living in all-white Union Town, Ohio (population 3,300) are now traumatized, “crying, confused and upset”, because they got the wrong sperm, and because their now two-year-old mixed race child is ‘suffering from racism’. They are now suing the Chicago sperm bank who accidentally swapped a white male sperm (donor No.380) with a black male sperm (donor No.330). Cramblett is now suing for $50K in damages, apparently to pay for their move to a more racially diverse community, and possibly for ‘hair care’.

Mum Cramblett’s main grievance is that they can’t find a suitable barber to cut their child’s hair in their white village. Turns out that her child’s Afro is just too tricky and stressful for the first time mom, so she wants an additional $50K to help sort out their child’s hair – because it’s just too traumatic.

We have to ask the question: Is this lesbian surrogate mother cashing-in by pulling the race card?

Judging by the amount of big tabloid media and other coverage of this story, it sure looks like a shameless opportunistic play by a liberal who should know better than to drag a real Kumbaya feel-good story of love and Universal understanding into… The Jerry Springer Zone.

Not very classy, but clearly, this lesbian couple needs the money, otherwise they wouldn’t be suing or selling off media spots.

We’re sure this same-sex couple voted for America’s ‘first black’ (or half-black) president in 2008 and 2012, so how could they be crying, confused, and upset over a child because of the color of her skin (and texture of her hair)? Whatever happened to Oprah, Ellen Degeneres, and Obama’s dream of a kinder, more accepting, rainbow culture in the US? And to cash-in on it? It just doesn’t make sense!

It’s actually worse than it sounds…

An Ohio mom and her same-sex partner are suing a Chicago-area fertility clinic for sending sperm from a black donor instead of the Caucasian sperm she ordered.

Jennifer Cramblett said that, as a lesbian, she knows what discrimination feels like. She doesn’t want her mixed-race daughter, Payton, to feel the same pain because of the color of her skin.

According to the lawsuit, the 2-year-old girl is already facing prejudice in Union Town, Ohio, a community of 3,300 people — 97 percent of whom are white.

The lawsuit was filed Monday against Midwest Sperm Bank for wrongful birth and breach of warranty, citing emotional and economic damage.

Jennifer Cramblett is interviewed at her attorney’s home in Waite Hill, Ohio, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014.

After poring over pages of donor histories from Midwest Sperm Bank three years ago, 36-year-old Jennifer Cramblett (above) and her partner, 29-year-old Amanda Zinkon, selected donor No. 380, who was white. Cramblett used the sperm to get pregnant and, several months later, the two decided to reserve some more sperm from that donor so Zinkon could one day have a child related to the one Cramblett was carrying.

During that process, the couple learned the truth: An employee at the fertility clinic misread a handwritten order — and Cramblett had been inseminated by donor No. 330, who was black.

“How could they make a mistake that was so personal?” Cramblett told the Associated Press.

The sperm bank allegedly sent an apology letter and a refund check for the wrong batch.

An attorney for Midwest Sperm Bank declined to comment to the Chicago Tribune.

“Jennifer was crying, confused and upset,” according to court papers filed Monday. “All of the thought, care and planning that she and Amanda had undertaken to control their baby’s parentage had been rendered meaningless. In an instant, Jennifer’s excitement and anticipation of her pregnancy was replaced with anger, disappointment and fear.”

Cramlett’s attorney, Thomas Intili, told NBC News his client “did not encounter any African-American people until she entered college. Not all her friends and family members are racially sensitive.”

The couple reportedly moved from Akron, Ohio, to Uniontown to be near better schools and Cramblett’s family. Now therapists are recommending that that they move to a more racially diverse community, the lawsuit stated.

One issue cited in the lawsuit is hair care.

“Getting a young daughter’s hair cut is not particularly stressful for most mothers, but to Jennifer it is not a routine matter, because Payton has hair typical of an African American girl,” according to the court documents. “To get a decent cut, Jennifer must travel to a black neighborhood, far from where she lives, where she is obviously different in appearance, and not overtly welcome.”

“I don’t want her to ever feel like she’s an outcast,” Cramblett told NBC News.

Cramblett said she is suing to prevent the sperm bank from making the same mistake with someone else. The lawsuit alleges the mishap was a result of the clinic’s handwritten record-keeping system.

According to Midwest Sperm Bank’s Web site, “we maintain the highest standards of quality control and assurance.”

“I am happy that I have a healthy child,” Cramblett told NBC News. “But I’m not going to let them get away with not being held accountable.”

The lawsuit seeks a minimum of $50,000 in damages.
