Michelle Obama and The Revenge of the ‘Knuckleheads’

21st Century Wire says…

The First Lady is in the news again, and for all the wrong reasons…

This week, Michelle Obama appeared on The Tonight Show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, to discuss her challenges of ‘life in the White House’ and also to plug her new “Let’s Move” campaign. Then came the train wreck – her suicidal gaff insinuating that America’s youth are stupid, can’t cook for themselves, spend their time drunk dancing on bar stools and in her eyes – are a bunch of “knuckleheads”. Yes, she did actually say that.

To appear on a major talk show and put down the very voting bloc who crowned her as American royalty, really takes some front. Watch…

As annoying as TV host Jimmy Fallon is (lacking the class and wittiness of predecessors like Johnny Carson), he is what he is, and is because every minute of every day in LA everyone tells him how cool and how funny he is, even if he’s not. It doesn’t really matter if he’s either of those things, because he’s famous. That’s standard in Hollywood.

But that’s not exactly the case for Michelle Obama, who resides in the world politics. Although she is partly cloaked in celebrity, unlike Jimmy, what you see with Michelle is actually real, and her berating, sweeping generalizations of America’s youth hasn’t done her any favors in the war for hearts and minds. Judging from the First Lady’s comments sans post-comment spin, it really says a lot about where her head is generally at. You just get the impression that she is a very unhappy person.

White House spin doctors can try to patch up the damage by making the rather lame excuse that, “It was just a joke”, but that can’t cover-up the bitterness and cutting political divisiveness on display. The proper thing to do is an apology to the American people, but of course, this breaks the cardinal Obama White House rule of, ‘why ever admit you have made a grave error when you can just talk around it’?

Some valuable advice to the First Lady: the next time you’re sent on the White House Agitprop tour, remember that it pays to be extra gracious when you are in power – otherwise you’ll end up getting humiliated by a barrage of video blogs, like this one from a 20-year old student from the University of Colorado:

There was something desperate about her public tirade on the Tonight Show, an evident nastiness in her tone which made for very uncomfortable viewing. Despite the $5,000 dress, she still came out like a snapping turtle. Maybe she was nervous, but then again, no – she has done much bigger gigs before. America saw glimpses of this before during her husband’s campaign trail, with various quips and cuts, like when the would-be First Lady gushed, “For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country…”, meaning she’s finally happy after 30 years of adult life because she’s part of the executive.

Even after being crowned Queen of Pennsylvania Avenue, she couldn’t stop using the race card widget either, an easy lay-up in political terms – as she continued to harp on that the system was still ‘holding back’ her and the President (as if), and that even today, “As a black man, Barack could still get shot just going to the gas station”…

Then there was the incident with the First Lady attending a ceremony honoring those who perished on 9/11. After the Stars and Stripes had been folded by police and firefighters, she quipped, “All this for a flag,” before pursing her lips and shaking her head from side to side – while the husband nods up and down. You’d think she was from Europe and just arrived in the US.

After achieving power and status, there are those who feel compelled to ‘talk down’ to people they feel are now below them. This is nothing new and should shock no one, as it’s something we see every day in our lives. But when it’s done in front of a camera on prime time, it demonstrates an edginess unbecoming of a First Lady. Some might call this a character flaw, or maybe a lack of grace.

What’s clearer than ever though, is that this incident should demonstrate to Americans the visible lack of confidence the President and his clique have in Obamacare. When you have to send your wife to do the late night TV rounds to hard sell after it’s already been passed into law – then there’s something seriously wrong with it.

Like most career lawyers and politicians who’ve never been innovators or had to sell anything other than themselves, Michelle really struggled with the hard sell:

“Well, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, young people can stay on their parents’ insurance until they are 26,” said the first lady of the United States… but once they hit 26 – they’re on their own. And a lot young people think they’re invincible. But the truth is, young people are knuckleheads.”

No, the truth is, Obamacare is shamelessly political, and just divisive. The White House brain trust only put that line item in to ‘cover’ those up to 26 years of age because they wanted those votes. After Obama leaves office, the social engineers will continue to play with that number like an electoral slide rule.

Like nearly every other political creature inhabiting Washington DC reality bubble these days – the First Lady is out of touch with America and Americans. What, with all the fashion stylists, and the hair stylists, the free designer handbags, shoes, dresses, and jewelry, the manicurists, the pedicurists, the pop stars and the nutritionists, and the fitness instructors, and the bodyguards, the Michael Jackson-sized entourage, having your dog chauffeured to Martha’s Vineyard in an Osprey helicopter, the Spanish Villa vacations, the Hawaiian outings, the $100 million African vacations and most importantly… the best healthcare money can afford in the United States – who can blame her? She’s just a product of the bloated federal beast and political celebrity culture that successive administrations have erected for themselves in the DC.

AMERICA’S YOUTH HAVE NO TIME FOR THE FIRST LADY’S INSENSITIVE REMARKS.

Who’s the real knucklehead now?

Somehow you get the feeling that when (or if?) the First Family pack up and leave in January 2016, that Michelle will be angling for an open Senate seat in Illinois, following the Hillary blueprint.

And why not? Being First Lady is such a great qualification for career in power politics.
