Ms Hillary Clinton Hospitalized With Blood Clot

By Karen DeYoung
Washington Post
Dec 31, 2012

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton was hospitalized in New York on Sunday after doctors monitoring her recovery from a concussion discovered a blood clot, according to a statement from her office.

The statement said that “in the course of a follow-up exam, Secretary Clinton’s doctors discovered a blood clot had formed, stemming from the concussion she sustained several weeks ago. She is being treated with anti-coagulants and is at New York-Presbyterian Hospital so that they can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours.

“Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion. They will determine if any further action is required.

”Clinton aide Philippe Reines, who issued the statement, declined to provide further details.

Reines said on Thursday that Clinton’s recuperation was continuing and that she was expected to resume her office schedule this week.

Clinton, 65, has not been seen in public since the first week in December, when she reportedly contracted a stomach virus during a trip to Europe. On Dec. 15, the State Department said that she had fainted at her home two days earlier, as a result of dehydration from the virus, and had sustained a concussion. The State Department said that her doctors had advised further rest.

During her absence, Clinton canceled an overseas trip and her scheduled testimony before Congress about the Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. She also did not appear at the White House on Dec. 21, when President Obama introduced Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) as his nominee to succeed Clinton.Republicans have said that they are likely to hold up Kerry’s nomination hearing until Clinton testifies about the Benghazi attack, but the impact of this new disclosure was unclear.

Clinton said two summers ago that she would not stay in her job in a second Obama term.

Before the announcement about Clinton’s hospitalization, Obama appeared Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and reaffirmed an earlier decision by Clinton to carry out all 29 recommendations made by a State Department review panel that examined the circumstances surrounding the attacks in Benghazi that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11. “My message to the State Department has been very simple, and that is we’re going to solve this,” he said. “We’re not going to be defensive about it; we’re not going to pretend that this was not a problem — this was a huge problem.”

Obama said one major finding — that the State Department relied too heavily on untested local Libyan militias to safeguard the compound in Benghazi — reflected “internal reviews” by the government. “It confirms what we had already seen based on some of our internal reviews; there was just some sloppiness, not intentional, in terms of how we secure embassies in areas where you essentially don’t have governments that have a lot of capacity to protect those embassies,” he said.

Ponzi Crackdown? Chilling Economic Report Is Getting Passed Around By CEOs

Business Insider Dec 27, 2012

Over an early-morning coffee with the chief executive of an FTSE 100 business last week, talk turned to the outlook for 2013. Where I had expected some guarded optimism, instead I heard a chilling analysis.

The CEO said he had been reading a new paper from Boston Consulting Group headed “ Ending the era of Ponzi finance ”. The lessons he had taken from it were miserable. The West was not going to find its way to the right economic path with a little tweaking at the edges, the CEO said. What is needed is a wholesale overhaul of the economic system to tackle record levels of public and private debt. Was anyone brave enough to do it, he wondered aloud. I asked him to send me the report. He did. The BCG study by Daniel Stelter which is doing the rounds of corporate C-suites does not pull its punches. In fact, its punches are really just a softening-up exercise for a barrage of kicks and painful blows aimed at anyone who thinks that kicking the can down the road is a suitable substitute for radical action. At the heart of the analysis is the issue of debt. A report by the Bank of International Settlements, the study notes, found that the combined debts of the public and private sector in the 18 core members of the OECD rose from 160pc of GDP in 1980 to 321pc in 2010. That debt was not used to fund growth – perfectly reasonable – but was used for consumption, speculation and, increasingly, to pay interest on the previous debt as liabilities were rolled over. As soon as asset price rises – fuelled by high levels of leverage – levelled off, the model imploded. The issue is brought into sharp focus by one salient fact. In the 1960s, for every additional dollar of debt taken on in America there was 59c of new GDP produced. By 2000-10, this figure had fallen to 18c. Even in America, that’s about a fifth of what you’ll need to buy a McDonald’s burger. Coupled with the huge debt burden are oversized public sectors and shrinking workforces. The larger the part the Government plays in the economy, the lower the levels of growth. A report by Andreas Bergh and Magnus Henrekson in 2011 – cited by BCG – found that for every increase of 10pc in the size of the state, there is a reduction in GDP of between 0.5pc and 1pc. Across Europe, the average level of government spending is 40pc of GDP or higher, and is as much as 60pc in Denmark and France. In emerging markets, it is between 20pc and 40pc. This gives non-Western economies an automatic growth advantage. This material should be gripping politicians in Westminster, not just CEOs in central London. The size of the workforce is falling across the developed world, with the United Nations estimating that between 2012 and 2050 the working-age population in Western Europe will fall by 13pc. This comes at a time when we have a pension system not much changed since the era of the man who invented it – Otto von Bismarck. What does the West need to do to right such fundamental imbalances? Mr Stelter and his colleagues do offer some solutions. First, there has to be an acknowledgement that some debts will never be repaid and should be restructured. Holders of the debt, be they countries or companies, should be allowed to default, whatever the short-term pain of such a process. In social policy, retirement ages will have to increase. People will have to work harder, for longer and should be encouraged to do so by changes in benefit levels that do little – at their present level – to reward work at the margin. The size of the state should be radically reduced and immigration encouraged. Competition in labour markets through supply-side reforms should be pursued… Read more  facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

The ‘Great Filter’ Theory: That Humans Have Already Conquered Threat of Extinction

George Dvorsky

Dec 22, 0212

It’s difficult to not be pessimistic when considering humanity’s future prospects. Many people would agree that it’s more likely than not that we’ll eventually do ourselves in.

And in fact, some astrobiologists theorize that all advanced civilizations hit the same insurmountable developmental wall we have. They call it the Great Filter. It’s a notion that’s often invoked to explain why we’ve never been visited by extraterrestrials.

But there is another possible reason for the celestial silence. Yes, the Great Filter exists, but we’ve already passed it. Here’s what this would mean. Before we can get to the Great Filter hypothesis we have to appreciate what the Fermi Paradox is telling us.

The Fermi Paradox and the Great Silence

The so-called “Great Silence” is the contradictory and counter-intuitive observation that we have yet to see any evidence for the existence of aliens. The size and age of the Universe suggests that many technologically advanced extraterrestrial intelligences (ETIs) ought to exist — but this hypothesis seems inconsistent with the lack of observational evidence to support it. Despite much of what popular culture and sci-fi would lead us to believe, the fact that we haven’t been visited by ETIs is disturbing. Our galaxy is so ancient that it could have been colonized hundreds, if not thousands, of times over by now. Even the most conservative estimates show that we should have already made contact either directly or indirectly (such as from dormant Bracewell communication probes).

Some skeptics dismiss the Fermi Paradox by suggesting that ETI’s have come and gone, or that they wouldn’t find us interesting.

Unfortunately, most solutions to the FP don’t hold for a number of reasons, including the realization that a colonization wave of superintelligent aliens would likely rework the fabric of all life in the cosmos (e.g. uplifting), or that these solutions are sociological in nature (i.e. they lack scientific rigor and don’t necessarily apply to the actions of all advanced civilizations; all it would take is just one to think and behave differently — what astrobiologists refer to as the non-exclusivity problem).

There have been many attempts to resolve the Fermi Paradox, including the herculean attempt by Stephen Webb in his book, Fifty Solutions to Fermi’s Paradox and the Problem of Extraterrestrial Life.

But one solution stands out from the others, mostly on account of its brute elegance: The Great Filter.

The Great Filter

Conceived in 1998 by Robin Hanson, the GF is the disturbing suggestion that there is some kind of absurdly difficult step in the evolution of life — one that precludes it from becoming interstellar. And like the immutable laws of the universe, the GF is a stumbling block that holds true across the board; if it applies here on Earth, it applies everywhere.

Many look upon the GF as evidence that we’ll destroy ourselves in the future. The basic idea is that every civilization destroys itself before developing space-faring technologies. Hence the empty cosmos. Given our own trajectory and the ominous presence of apocalyptic weapons, this scenario certainly seems plausible. We’re not even close to going interstellar, yet we’re certainly capable of self-annihilation. But that doesn’t mean this interpretation of the GF is the correct one. Rather, it’s quite possible that human civilization has already passed the Great Filter. Should this be the case, it would be exceptionally good news. Assuming there’s no other filter awaiting us in the future, it means we might be the first and only intelligent civilization in the Milky Way.

It’s a possibility, however, that demands explanation. If the filter is behind us, what was it? And how did we manage to get past it? Interestingly, there are some excellent candidates.

Rare Earth

First and foremost there’s the Rare Earth Hypothesis (REH), the suggestion that the emergence of life was extremely improbable for a confluence of reasons. The theory essentially suggests that we hit the jackpot here on Earth. This argument, which was first articulated by geologist Peter Ward and astrobiologist Donald E. Brownlee, turns the whole Copernican Principle on its head. Instead of saying that we’re nothing special or unique, the REH implies the exact opposite — that we are freakishly special and unique. What we see here on Earth in this solar system and in this part of the Galaxy may be a remarkable convergence of highly unlikely factors — factors that have resulted in a perfect storm of conditions suitable for the emergence of complex life.

It’s important to note that Ward and Brownlee are not implying that it’s one or two conditions that can explain habitability, but rather an entire array of happy accidents. For example, stars might have to be of the right kind (including adequate metallicity and safe distance from dangerous celestial objects), and planets must be in a stable orbit with a large moon. Other factors include the presence of gas giants, plate tectonics, and many others. But even with all the right conditions, life was by no means guaranteed. It’s quite possible that the Great Filter involved the next set of steps: the emergence of life and its ongoing evolution.

The improbability of life

Indeed, in addition to all the cosmological and chemical prerequisites for life, there were at least three critical stages that could all be considered candidates for the Great Filter: (1) the emergence of reproductive molecules (abiogenesis and the emergence of RNA), (2) simple single-celled life (prokaryotes), and (3) complex single-celled life (eukaryotes). Chemists and biologists are still not entirely sure how the first self-replicating molecules came into existence. Unlike its big brother, DNA, RNA is a single-stranded molecule that has a much shorter chain of nucleotides. Moreover, it usually needs DNA to reproduce itself — which would have been a problem given the absence of DNA in those early days. That said, scientists know that RNA is capable of reproducing through autocatalysis. It does this by storing information similar to DNA, which allows it to become its own catalyst (a ribosome). This so-called RNA World Modelsuggests that RNA can function as both a gene and an enzyme — a pre-DNA configuration that eventually became the basis for all life. Given that we’ve never detected life elsewhere, it’s difficult to know how difficult this initial step was. But that said, this form of life emerged super-early in the Earth’s history — about a billion years after its formation, and immediately after the cooling of rocks and the emergence of oceans. But what we do know is that the next few steps — the leap from single-celled life to complex single-celled life — was exceedingly difficult, if not highly improbable. The process of copying a genetic molecule is extremely complex, involving the perfect configuration of proteins and other cellular components.

Here’s how it likely happened: Once a self-replicating molecule emerged, the presence of RNA allowed for the formation of protobionts, a theoretic precursor to prokaryotic cells. These tightly bound bundles of organic molecules contained RNA within their membranes — which could have evolved into proper prokaryotic cells. And here’s where it gets interesting. After the formation of prokaryotes — about 3.5 billion years ago — nothing changed in the biological landscape for the next 1.8 billion years. Life in this primitive form was completely stuck. Imagine that — no evolution for almost two billion years. It was only after the endosymbiosis of multiple prokaryotes that complex single-cell life finally emerged — a change that was by no means guaranteed, and possibly unlikely.

And it’s this highly improbable step, say some scientists, that’s the Great Filter. Everything that happened afterward is a complete bonus.

Now that said, there may have been other filters as well. These could include the emergence of terrestrial organisms, hominids, and various civilizational stages, like the transition from stone age culture to agricultural to industrial. But unlike the first primordial stages already discussed, these are porous filters and not terribly unlikely.

More filters ahead?

So, if the GF is behind us, it would do much to explain the Fermi Paradox and the absence of extraterrestrial influence on the cosmos. Should that be the case, we may very well have a bright future ahead of us. The Milky Way Galaxy is literally ours for the taking, our future completely open-ended.

But before we jump to conclusions, it’s only fair to point out that we’re not out of the woods yet. There could very well be another GF in the future — one just as stingy as the filters of our past. The universe, while giving the appearance of bio-friendliness, may in reality be extremely hostile to intelligent life.

ANOTHER REVELATION: What are Orbs?

21st Century Wire says… we wouldn’t have believed it, until we saw them this week photographed in a London property with time-lapse photography tracking movement across the frame. It’s worth looking into… By Cheyenne MacMasters What are orbs? Are they ghosts? Dust motes? A light leak in your camera? No, the good news is that they are none of the above. Digital flash photography has expanded our narrow visual range to now include orbs. Klaus Heinemann, a NASA scientist who obtained his Ph.D. in experimental physics, calls them ”emanations of spiritual beings.” Just as car headlights are not the driver, the orb light we see is not the being. Orbs love passion and rich sound, this orb shined forth in response to a blues singer who used to sing opera. His hearty voice was a true orb’s delight. Notice the dark line along the inner rim, a very characteristic detail of an orb. What are orbs? Orbs are round, orbs are tear drop, and orbs come in different colors. They like to cruise above your rooftop at night and hover around the bushes. What are orbs? They are beings who love enthusiasm. These orbs were awash over a tree that has served as the meeting place for hot air balloonists for many years. Apparently the orbs know there will be a party whenever the balloonists gather in the wee dawn hours. Who knew that orbs like to party? Or, that they liked you? What are orbs? Remember, they aren’t ghosts. You don’t have to go to a graveyard to photograph what is right outside your door. Often, they are waiting for you. This is the balloonist’s party tree already alight with orbs before everyone had arrived. Waiting expectantly for that party. Orbs are all about passion and enthusiasm, especially yours. In The Face of Tragedy What We Focus On Will Define Priorities, Expand Consciousness

Waking Times When we hear mainstream news reporting on violent tragedies at home or overseas, why is the only focus on the act itself and its perpetrator(s)? Especially for those incidents where many pass on– why do we not place a greater importance in remembering those who gave their lives so we could learn, rather than creating drama and promoting the emotional burden of the event? The Earth is moving beyond dimensional realities that have restricted our awareness to polarity and victim-perpetrator relationships. Where we place our focus moving forward is paramount and will define our priorities while expanding our state of consciousness. Our inner awareness of thoughts, emotions, memories, images all reflect in our reality. When extreme acts of violence occur within this reality, they may often be exploited and used to change or further reinforce our current level of awareness. For example, there are thousands of innocent children who die every day in the midst of many wars and economic turmoil initiated by the same politicians who hypocritically demand the disarming of their own citizens due to mass shootings such as those that recently took place in Colorado and Connecticut. The lives lost overseas are just as cherished and significant as those on our own soil, yet the distortions in the media neglect to make those comparisons so that a segment of consciousness echo that distortion. The focus is always on the perceived evil that men do. There is never an emphasis on remembering the actual victims or their names, only the gunmen and the image of how they are portrayed in the media. Despite many of these gunmen passing on themselves, they continue to be vilified, persecuted and chastised for months and even years after the fact. They represent the continuous creation of evil entities that serve as symbols for a malevolent purpose. We have been conditioned to ignore the thousands of children who die every day at the expense of what politicians claim is freedom, yet an opportunity is never missed to exploit the deaths that can easily bind to an emotional objective and serve a political function. The majority agree to these psychological tactics, otherwise they would not exist. With the consent of the majority, there are great powers on Earth that influence the movement of this psychological conditioning which ultimately defines human behavior and our culture. We have accepted this conditioning so that many souls on Earth may influence a change in their vibrational alignment. The powers that be are also wise to our ascension. They are holding on to the old world because they think they can stop the wave of positivity that is surrounding the Earth. They can’t, but they still must try with the only tools they know creating choas, fear and control. We have all programmed ourselves into believing that there are actually victims and perpetrators. All you are seeing is perspective. The entire universe is created from projected frequencies which change the vibrational states of all things including people. There are only transmitters of these vibrational states and their receivers. The finest components of our DNA are designed to receive these frequencies and our biology responds to them. The vibrational universe empowers us. If we do not enjoy the status of our lives, we can transform how we think and feel and the universe will respond. In a vibrational universe, there are no victims, only matching vibrations. Therefore, the victim of a crime is as much responsible for the experience as the perpetrator. It may be an offensive and outrageous statement to many, but it is fully supported by the laws of the universe. These universal laws continue to be aggressively denied, but the scales are tipping at a phenomenal pace. The only reason the mainstream media continues to have voice in the hearts and minds of people is that the great powers of Earth (of which we are a part of) understand how to manipulate a segment of mass consciousness into maintaining a specific vibration that suits the status quo, but that is reversing itself. We are making huge strides in our ability to see beyond polarity consciousness and understand that we are all connected, including those who are the perpetrators of mass shootings and what we consider to be their victims. They are all a unit formed under a contractual obligation to provide services to one another–to expand consciousness on a scale much greater than ever imagined. We May Not Need Any Drama To Change The Earth  When will the next world war begin? When will the global economy implode? When will the next event occur that assaults human rights on a territorial scale? Perhaps all, some or none of these things will happen. We’re all deciding right now. One of the things many who are ascending have hoped for is drama. Many of us have thought that a match must be lit and a bomb must explode for profound changes to occur and the rest of humanity who we consider to be in an “altered state of consciousness” to wake up. Not necessarily… Read more facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

Bird’s Eye View: Why the Chinese Demand US Gun Control

Chinese State Media Demands US Citizens Be Disarmed… The official Chinese government news agency, Xinhua, has demanded the US immediately adopt stricter gun control measures to reduce the number of firearms the US populace is permitted to possess. The Chinese state-controlled media’s statement, titled “Innocent Blood Demands No Delay for US Gun Control,” is primarily focused on the Newtown tragedy in which 26 Americans were killed by a mad gunman. Twenty of the victims were young children. The Chinese government stated, “Their blood and tears demand no delay for the U.S. gun control.” – Breitbart.com The Daily Bell Dominant Social Theme: The Chinese are rightfully concerned with US violence. Free-Market Analysis: The Chinese have weighed in on US gun violence. Breitbart is reporting that the Chinese government is concerned about US gun violence (see above excerpt). This is notable because it tends to support certain dominant social themes we have noted before. We do believe that the Chinese, like the Russians and the rest of the BRICs, are part of an effort to create global governance. The British – the City of London being an integral part of this larger effort – virtually ran China and India over the past century. While British influence has eroded among the civilian population, chances are the power elite behind past depredations remains quite influential with the political and military class.

Gun control in the US – a double edge sword, where govt  seeks – and may gain the upper hand in future.

There is evidence that Western powers wanted communism to come to China in the form of Mao because that helped crush China’s unique culture and set the stage for the current quasi-capitalism that now engulfs China. And as we have pointed out recently, both China and the US are converging on a new kind of sociopolitical and economic system that may mimic Germany’s National Socialism more than any other political paradigm. For this reason, we’re not surprised top Chinese officials are calling for more gun control in the US. This suits the Chinese system, which is intended, we have no doubt, to more closely merge with European and North American systems over time. The availability of guns is an impediment to totalitarianfascism or whatever else the power elite has in mind. Here’s more from the Breitbart article: The Chinese government states: “The past six months have seen enough shooting rampages in the United States. Just three days ago, three people were shot dead at a shopping mall in Oregon. Two weeks ago, a football player shot his girlfriend dead and then committed suicide. Five months ago, 12 people were killed and 58 wounded in a shooting spree at a midnight screening of a Batman film in Colorado.” The government went on to express a strong dislike of the National Rifle Association while also attacking the Republican Party as somehow complicit in the violence. Conversely, the article heaps praise on the Democratic Party … The current Chinese government, the communist People’s Republic of China, was established in a revolution led by Mao Zedong, who killed an estimated 40-70 million people with starvation, executions, and re-education camps. This last point is a very good one. If you are interested in the results of an unarmed populace, look no further than China’s Great Leap Forward under Mao.

Mao: Father of modern Chinese gun control.

Whether it is Hitler’s Germany or Stalin‘s Russia, an unarmed population always invites the retaliation of tyrants. And we can also see that gun control does little to reduce violence statistically. Australian officials have been busy disarming their populace but violence is not down appreciably, as it is only law-abiding citizens that allow themselves to be disarmed. Criminals remain armed. For those who believe as we do in directed history, the specter of aggressive efforts at gun confiscation is not a good sign. Those who are engaged in the promotion of world government are providing us with clear illustrations that they are willing to shed blood to attain it. These individuals and their surrogates practice the philosophy of “the end justifies the means.” But just as importantly, if not more so, the opinion of Chinese officials regarding the positives of US gun control provide us with an insight as to how closely aligned US and Chinese leaders really are when it comes to sociopolitical and economic policies. The world is being prepared for global government, in our view. The US is being brought down while other countries like the BRICs are being brought up. The idea that China poses an existential threat to the West is no more convincing, in our view, than the idea that Islam is implacably opposed to Christianity and that a religious war is in the offing. Conclusion: These are memes of the elite. They are phantasmagoria designed to distract us from the truth that is both more mundane and perhaps more dangerous.facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

LEGAL UPDATE: British Prosecutors Clarify Offensive Online Posts Law

BBC Dec 19, 2012

New guidelines could see fewer people being charged in England and Wales for offensive messages on social networks.

The Director of Public Prosecutions said people should face a trial only if their comments on Twitter, Facebook or elsewhere go beyond being offensive. He said the guidance combats threats and internet trolls without having a “chilling effect” on free speech. The guidance means some people could avoid trial if they are sorry for criminal comments posted while drunk. The guidance comes after a string of controversial cases, including the prosecution of a man who tweeted a joke threatening to blow up an airport. Case law Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer said the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had now dealt with more than 50 cases relating to potentially criminal comments posted online – but there was so far very little case law set by senior judges to guide which trials should go ahead.
“These interim guidelines are intended to strike the right balance between freedom of expression and the need to uphold the criminal law” Keir StarmerDirector of Public Prosecutions

He said the interim guidelines, which come into force immediately, clarified which kinds of cases should be prosecuted and which would go ahead only after a rigorous assessment whether it was in the public interest to prosecute.

“The scale of the problem that we are trying to confront should not be underestimated. There are millions of messages sent by social media every day and if only a small percentage of those millions are deemed to be offensive then there is the potential for very many cases coming before our courts,” Mr Starmer told BBC Radio 4′s Today programme. The guidance says that if someone posts a message online that clearly amounts to a credible threat of violence, specifically targets an individual or individuals, or breaches a court order designed to protect someone, then the person behind the message should face prosecution. People who receive malicious messages and pass them on, such as by retweeting, could also fall foul of the law. However, online posts that are merely “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or false” would face a much tougher test before the individual could be charged under laws designed to prevent malicious communications. Mr Starmer said that many suspects in this last category would be unlikely to be prosecuted because it would not be in the public interest to take them to court. This could include posts made by drunk people who, on sobering up, take swift action to delete the communication because they are genuinely sorry for the offence or harm they caused. Individuals who post messages as part of a separate crime, such as a plan to import drugs, would face prosecution for that offence, as is currently the case… Read more facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest
