Square-Off: Web Activists Celebrate ‘Internet Freedom Day’

One year ago, Web activists were celebrating the end of two Internet piracy bills.

This year, while they’re taking time to remember a victory over the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP (Intellectual Property) Act, they’ve also got their eyes on a larger fight.

Friday, Jan. 18, is now known as “Internet Freedom Day,” organized by the groups that rallied an unexpected force of Internet users to support the concept of the open Web.

As part of Internet Freedom Day, Web advocacy groups are asking for people to take that momentum to a variety of causes, including demanding updates to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, sending letters to the House and Senate Judiciary committees to ask them to support an open Web and participating in a University of California study about Internet activism.

In the year since the fight over SOPA and PIPA, there have been a few additional victories for open Internet advocates, notably decisions from Republicans and Democrats to put a commitment to an open Internet in their political platforms.

The day’s activities and actions are also tinged with sadness, as many groups are dedicating their efforts to the memory of one of their own, Aaron Swartz, and advocate for changes to federal computer fraud law. He was best known as the co-author of the technology behind RSS and an early force in the creation of Reddit.

Swartz, who was found dead in his apartment last week of an apparent suicide, was facing charges for violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Those violations carried the possibility of 35 years in prison and a million-dollar fine, though the U.S. Attorney overseeing the case, Carmen Ortiz, said in a statement this week that her office never intended to pursue the maximum penalty.

In response to his death, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) has circulated a draft bill that she is calling “Aaron’s Law,” which proposes that cases in which users have violated online terms of service fall under the jurisdiction of civil courts. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), a lawmaker who was very prominent in the fight against SOPA and PIPA, has also said that he will lead an investigation into how the Justice Department handled Swartz’s case. Issa is the chairman of the House Oversight committee.

The ‘Great Filter’ Theory: That Humans Have Already Conquered Threat of Extinction

George Dvorsky
io9.com
Dec 22, 0212

It’s difficult to not be pessimistic when considering humanity’s future prospects. Many people would agree that it’s more likely than not that we’ll eventually do ourselves in.

And in fact, some astrobiologists theorize that all advanced civilizations hit the same insurmountable developmental wall we have. They call it the Great Filter. It’s a notion that’s often invoked to explain why we’ve never been visited by extraterrestrials.

But there is another possible reason for the celestial silence. Yes, the Great Filter exists, but we’ve already passed it. Here’s what this would mean. Before we can get to the Great Filter hypothesis we have to appreciate what the Fermi Paradox is telling us.

The Fermi Paradox and the Great Silence

The so-called “Great Silence” is the contradictory and counter-intuitive observation that we have yet to see any evidence for the existence of aliens. The size and age of the Universe suggests that many technologically advanced extraterrestrial intelligences (ETIs) ought to exist — but this hypothesis seems inconsistent with the lack of observational evidence to support it. Despite much of what popular culture and sci-fi would lead us to believe, the fact that we haven’t been visited by ETIs is disturbing. Our galaxy is so ancient that it could have been colonized hundreds, if not thousands, of times over by now. Even the most conservative estimates show that we should have already made contact either directly or indirectly (such as from dormant Bracewell communication probes).

Some skeptics dismiss the Fermi Paradox by suggesting that ETI’s have come and gone, or that they wouldn’t find us interesting.

Unfortunately, most solutions to the FP don’t hold for a number of reasons, including the realization that a colonization wave of superintelligent aliens would likely rework the fabric of all life in the cosmos (e.g. uplifting), or that these solutions are sociological in nature (i.e. they lack scientific rigor and don’t necessarily apply to the actions of all advanced civilizations; all it would take is just one to think and behave differently — what astrobiologists refer to as the non-exclusivity problem).

There have been many attempts to resolve the Fermi Paradox, including the herculean attempt by Stephen Webb in his book, Fifty Solutions to Fermi’s Paradox and the Problem of Extraterrestrial Life.

But one solution stands out from the others, mostly on account of its brute elegance: The Great Filter.

The Great Filter

Conceived in 1998 by Robin Hanson, the GF is the disturbing suggestion that there is some kind of absurdly difficult step in the evolution of life — one that precludes it from becoming interstellar. And like the immutable laws of the universe, the GF is a stumbling block that holds true across the board; if it applies here on Earth, it applies everywhere.

Many look upon the GF as evidence that we’ll destroy ourselves in the future. The basic idea is that every civilization destroys itself before developing space-faring technologies. Hence the empty cosmos. Given our own trajectory and the ominous presence of apocalyptic weapons, this scenario certainly seems plausible. We’re not even close to going interstellar, yet we’re certainly capable of self-annihilation. But that doesn’t mean this interpretation of the GF is the correct one. Rather, it’s quite possible that human civilization has already passed the Great Filter. Should this be the case, it would be exceptionally good news. Assuming there’s no other filter awaiting us in the future, it means we might be the first and only intelligent civilization in the Milky Way.

It’s a possibility, however, that demands explanation. If the filter is behind us, what was it? And how did we manage to get past it? Interestingly, there are some excellent candidates.

Rare Earth

First and foremost there’s the Rare Earth Hypothesis (REH), the suggestion that the emergence of life was extremely improbable for a confluence of reasons. The theory essentially suggests that we hit the jackpot here on Earth. This argument, which was first articulated by geologist Peter Ward and astrobiologist Donald E. Brownlee, turns the whole Copernican Principle on its head. Instead of saying that we’re nothing special or unique, the REH implies the exact opposite — that we are freakishly special and unique. What we see here on Earth in this solar system and in this part of the Galaxy may be a remarkable convergence of highly unlikely factors — factors that have resulted in a perfect storm of conditions suitable for the emergence of complex life.

It’s important to note that Ward and Brownlee are not implying that it’s one or two conditions that can explain habitability, but rather an entire array of happy accidents. For example, stars might have to be of the right kind (including adequate metallicity and safe distance from dangerous celestial objects), and planets must be in a stable orbit with a large moon. Other factors include the presence of gas giants, plate tectonics, and many others. But even with all the right conditions, life was by no means guaranteed. It’s quite possible that the Great Filter involved the next set of steps: the emergence of life and its ongoing evolution.

The improbability of life

Indeed, in addition to all the cosmological and chemical prerequisites for life, there were at least three critical stages that could all be considered candidates for the Great Filter: (1) the emergence of reproductive molecules (abiogenesis and the emergence of RNA), (2) simple single-celled life (prokaryotes), and (3) complex single-celled life (eukaryotes). Chemists and biologists are still not entirely sure how the first self-replicating molecules came into existence. Unlike its big brother, DNA, RNA is a single-stranded molecule that has a much shorter chain of nucleotides. Moreover, it usually needs DNA to reproduce itself — which would have been a problem given the absence of DNA in those early days. That said, scientists know that RNA is capable of reproducing through autocatalysis. It does this by storing information similar to DNA, which allows it to become its own catalyst (a ribosome). This so-called RNA World Modelsuggests that RNA can function as both a gene and an enzyme — a pre-DNA configuration that eventually became the basis for all life. Given that we’ve never detected life elsewhere, it’s difficult to know how difficult this initial step was. But that said, this form of life emerged super-early in the Earth’s history — about a billion years after its formation, and immediately after the cooling of rocks and the emergence of oceans. But what we do know is that the next few steps — the leap from single-celled life to complex single-celled life — was exceedingly difficult, if not highly improbable. The process of copying a genetic molecule is extremely complex, involving the perfect configuration of proteins and other cellular components.

Here’s how it likely happened: Once a self-replicating molecule emerged, the presence of RNA allowed for the formation of protobionts, a theoretic precursor to prokaryotic cells. These tightly bound bundles of organic molecules contained RNA within their membranes — which could have evolved into proper prokaryotic cells. And here’s where it gets interesting. After the formation of prokaryotes — about 3.5 billion years ago — nothing changed in the biological landscape for the next 1.8 billion years. Life in this primitive form was completely stuck. Imagine that — no evolution for almost two billion years. It was only after the endosymbiosis of multiple prokaryotes that complex single-cell life finally emerged — a change that was by no means guaranteed, and possibly unlikely.

And it’s this highly improbable step, say some scientists, that’s the Great Filter. Everything that happened afterward is a complete bonus.

Now that said, there may have been other filters as well. These could include the emergence of terrestrial organisms, hominids, and various civilizational stages, like the transition from stone age culture to agricultural to industrial. But unlike the first primordial stages already discussed, these are porous filters and not terribly unlikely.

More filters ahead?

So, if the GF is behind us, it would do much to explain the Fermi Paradox and the absence of extraterrestrial influence on the cosmos. Should that be the case, we may very well have a bright future ahead of us. The Milky Way Galaxy is literally ours for the taking, our future completely open-ended.

But before we jump to conclusions, it’s only fair to point out that we’re not out of the woods yet. There could very well be another GF in the future — one just as stingy as the filters of our past. The universe, while giving the appearance of bio-friendliness, may in reality be extremely hostile to intelligent life.

A Discussion: ‘Shamanism and Spirituality’

Konstantin Eriksen Waking Times
Man is a spiritual creature, always searching for meaning. But for many people in the so-called “western world,” there is a feeling of disenchantment with the world as it is: Wake up, do your job, get a mortgage, buy a house, pay your taxes and eagerly await the weekend. Perhaps you’re one of these people. Traditional religions don’t fill the gap. People become exasperated. They start drinking alcohol or using drugs. They see no meaning in their routine days of drudgery. Watching some documentaries about shamanism over the last few months has gotten me thinking. A lot of these so-called “primitive” peoples appear happier than we “westerners” are. They have a sense of community, a sense of belonging and a sense of responsibility to those around them. Spiritually, they don’t seek to find a “god” outside of themselves. They don’t have rigid religious doctrines that attack all non-believers. In traditional cultures all over the world, and in places as diverse as Siberia and the Amazon jungle, shamanic mysticism is integrated into the culture. Spirituality is integrated within each individual, and every day is considered a spiritual day. Spirit is everywhere. It is not something they do once every week on a Saturday or Sunday when the kids are out of school. Their spirituality is experiential and visceral. They live it. Nowhere is this more apparent than in their use of psychotropic (mind-altering) plants to affect changes in themselves. These “primitives” actually have very sophisticated ways of inducing psychological changes. Using various mushrooms, green leafy plants and plant mixtures that affect the brain, and rituals that include dance and music to affect a trance on the participants, their spiritual practices are designed to help people discover and face their dark sides, their fears and their anxieties. Researchers who have a lot of experience studying shamanism and participating in the rituals, such as Terence McKenna, have found that this attempt to communicate directly with the spirit and emotions can transform people’s lives. Through these rituals, nature, spirit and life become unified. People become more free to express themselves. Substances are essential parts of a ritual and are not used as recreational drugs or as substitutes for television, as they are in many industrialized countries. Drug addiction is unknown in these ancient and traditional societies. As with the sufi poets, shamans compose poetry, which they later chant. Here is a poem by the Peruvian shaman Kestenbetsa, which I have translated from French:
I will open, I will open your thoughts by opening them, I will fill you with joy by filling you with joy, I will straighten your thoughts straightening them, I will do it joyously I will straighten your body now, I will heal you to the depths of your heart opening your heart, I will give you an immense feeling of joy in this way, I will return life to you I will return life to your body I will return life to your thoughts I will heal your being, I will heal your body with the powerful scent of the trees and with the faultless scent of the universe in thought… for you to be joyous remember my words so that you may remember them, I chant them to you although I am unimportant, I have made you shine I have made your thoughts shine the universe harmonizes my words have fulfilled their promise and that, ’till infinity.
To me it’s obvious that there is a way to be spiritual without being religious and without following a strict, dogmatic code of conduct. After all, research in biochemistry and biophysics has shown that the world is not nearly as simple as most “scientists” have thought: DNA has electromagnetic qualities. It is not merely a chemical-reaction-generator. There are snake-like bodies inside of cells that nobody understands and whose function nobody knows. Most of the “stuff” of the universe is theorized to be “dark energy,” an energy that nobody knows anything about. Could coming back to living a more natural life actually be a way out of our modern-society-induced disenchantment?

From Sci-Fi to Reality: Computer-Blitzing Drone That Cripples a Nation’s Electronics With Touch of Button

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has successfully tested a missile which knocked out an entire military compound in the Utah desert
  • Aircraft manufacturer Boeing have created a weapon that can knock out computers
  • The missile is thought to be able to penetrate bunkers and caves
  • Experts warn, in the wrong hands, could bring Western cities to their knees
http://bobmccarty.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/empgraphic.jpgBy Bill Ellery Down the years and across the universe, the heroes of science-fiction classics from Dan Dare to Star Wars and The Matrix have fought intergalactic battles with weapons that wipe out enemy electronics at the touch of a button. Now scientists have turned fantasy into reality by developing a missile that targets buildings with microwaves that disable computers but don’t harm people. Aircraft manufacturer Boeing successfully tested the weapon on a one-hour flight during which  it knocked out the computers of an entire military compound in the Utah desert. It is thought the missile could  penetrate the bunkers and caves believed to be hiding Iran’s suspected nuclear facilities. But experts have warned that, in the wrong hands, the technology could be used to bring Western cities such as London to their knees. During Boeing’s experiment, the missile flew low over the Utah Test and Training Range, discharging  electromagnetic pulses on to seven targets, permanently shutting down their electronics. Boeing said that the test was so successful even the camera recording it was disabled. Codenamed the Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), it is the first time a missile with electromagnetic pulse capability has been tested. For security reasons, Boeing declined to release film of the test, but instead issued an artist’s impression of it on video. In the clip, a stealth aircraft deploys a missile that emits radio waves from its undercarriage which knock out the computer systems inside the buildings below. The Cashless Society is Almost Here – And With Some Very Sinister Implications

Patrick Henningsen
21st Century Wire

Among the long list of items bundled by consensus reality merchants under the banner of ‘conspiracy theory’, is a world without cash – where technocrats rule over the populace, and everything and anything is exchanged via plastic and RFID chips.

In this sterile and controlled Orwellian hi-tech society, the idea of cash being passed from hand to hand would be as archaic as the thought of carrying around a rucksack of tally sticks today.

Still, despite the incredible penetration of credit and debit card transactions into economic aggregate, and the boom in internet shopping, few will comfortably admit that a cashless society is nearly upon us. In part, it’s a natural denial by many fueled by the idea of our society is indeed on a collision course with the sort of dystopic impersonal future like that depicted in the 1970′s sci-fi film classic, Logan’s Run’.

Cashless money is here, and growing rapidly.

Over the years, futurists and commentators alike seemed to agree that a cashless society would be a slow creep, and cash would automatically phase itself in simply by virtue of the sheer volume of electronic transactions that would gradually make paper less available and more costly to redeem and exchange. This is still true for the most part. What few counted on, however, was how the final push would take place, and why. Some will be surprised by these new emerging mechanisms, and the political and sinister implications they will ultimately lead to.

What’s the time frame on all this? Difficult to say, but what is certain is that the initial phases are already in motion…

Introduction of Parallel Currencies

There has been a lot made about the ‘cashless society’ in media, but this cannot fully happen until there is a cashless currency.

Every revolution needs a good crisis in order to germinate its seed. The cashless revolution is no different. It should be abundantly clear by now that the global financial meltdown has been engineered at every juncture of its unfolding by the very private central banks who expand and contract the money supply. A dollar or euro collapse will trigger a global economic crisis, which is a prime opportunity to introduce the next phase. In the summer of 2012, at the height of the European Central Bank (ECB) ritualistic raping of the Greek economy, financial expert Max Keiser, alongside Mexican billionaire Hugo Salinas Price, traveled to Athens to promote the idea of a silver Drachma as a parallel currency to the ever-failing euro. In theory and in practice, this parallel currency was ‘sound money’ for individual Greeks and would allow them to retain some say in their financial destiny, and also allow them to accumulate real wealth. It should have caught on.  But this great idea did not go down well with media moguls and technocratic elites loyal to their overlords in the ECB, Wall Street and the City of London. Still, too many people remain unaware of how money is created, entered into circulation and how their private central banks control inflation, and Greece is no different.

Watch this clip from Greek television:

The US dollar is pure fiat, but it does have a theoretical backer. It is an oil-backed currency – and for better of for worse, it’s on its way to losing its long-lived status as the world’s reserve currency. There are signals that China is moving towards a gold-backed currency and has already agreed to buy the majority of its oil supply from Russia off of the US dollar peg. This could mean two things: the US could be forced to fight a war to maintain dollar supremacy, or the dollar will begin to drop as the top dog. This shift will open up a window of opportunity for money masters to insert not only a brand new global currency, but also its universal cashless attributes as well. Common sense and free market wisdom would expect to see a sound money option replace the current fiat disaster, but as we saw in Greece, a great solution was not taken up and straddled with the dysfunctional euro, that society will continue to pay the cost of that reality. The euro crisis was a great opportunity to throw out the euro in favour of something that could create wealth, rather than debt. As the fiat currencies continue to slide downhill, globalist are preparing their solution behind closed doors.

Enter the Cashless Currency…

It’s arguable that we approaching the cusp of that US Dollar collapse, and perhaps a Euro implosion on the back end of it. Risks of hyper inflation are very real here, but if you control the money supply might already have a ready-made solution waiting in the wings, you will not be worrying about the rift, only waiting for the chaos to ensue so as to maximise your own booty from the crisis.

Many believed that the global currency would be the SDR unit, aka Special Drawing Rights, implemented in 2001 as a supplementary foreign exchange reserve asset maintained by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). SDRs were not considered a full-fledged currency, but rather a claim to currency held by IMF member countries for which they may be exchanged for dollars, euros, yen or other central bankers’ fiat notes. With the SDR confined to the upper tier of the international money launderette, a new product is still needed to dovetail with designs of a  global cashless society.

Two new parallel currencies are currently being used exclusively within the electronic, or cashless  domain – Bitcoin and Ven Among the many worries Ben Bernanke listed in his speech at the New York Economic Club last week  was the emergence of Bitcoin. But don’t believe for a second that these digital parallel currencies are not being watched over and even steered by the money masters. Couple this latest trend with done deals by most of the world’s largest mobile networks this month to allow people to pay via a mobile ‘wallet’, and you now have the initial enabler for a new global electronic currency. These new parallel cashless currencies could very quickly end up in pole position for supremacy when the old fiat notes fade away as a result of the next planned economic dollar and euro crisis.

Both Bitcoin and Ven appear on their surface to be independent parallel digital money systems, but the reality is much different. In April 2011, Ven announced the first commodity trade priced in Ven for gold production between Europe and South America. Both of these so-called ‘digital alternatives’ are being backed and promoted through some of the world’s biggest and most long-standing corporate dynasties, including Rothschild owned Reuters as an example, which should be of interest to any activist who believes that a digitally controlled global currency is a dangerous path to tread down.

The Electronic Deutsche Mark

Much is made of Germany’s prominent financial position within the EU, with a popular talking point being that, “Germany is carrying the majority of the load in ‘bailing out’ countries such as Greece in the south”. If the Euro is ‘heading south’ as many a financial commentator are claiming, then how would a country like Germany – or even the US Federal Reserve for that matter, hedge their bets with an impending currency collapse looming just over the horizon?

Economics professor Miles Kimball from the University of Michigan thinks he knows the answer:

“In short, for a smooth transition, a reintroduced mark needs to be an electronic mark. I recently made the case for the electronic dollar in a previous Quartz column, “E-Money: How paper currency is holding the US recovery back.” The trouble with paper money is that the rate of interest people earn on holding paper money puts a floor on the interest rate they are willing to accept in doing any other lending. For the US, I proposed making the electronic dollar the “unit of account” or economic yardstick for prices and other economic values, and having the Federal Reserve control the exchange rate between electronic dollars and paper dollars to make paper dollars gradually fall in value relative to electronic dollars during periods of time when the Fed wants room to make the interest rate negative. In the case of Germany, there would be no need to reintroduce a paper mark along with the electronic mark, since the euro itself could continue in its current role as a “medium of exchange” for making purchases in Germany, alongside the electronic mark. A “crawling peg” exchange rate could be used to let the electronic mark gradually go up in value relative to the euro, without causing a huge rush into the mark, since with no paper mark other than the euro itself, interest rates in Germany could be close to zero when measured in euros, which would make them strongly negative in terms of marks.”

A dollar or euro crash could be the perfect storm for the introduction of a major global digital currencies, and this will do nothing but fast-track our entry into the new cashless society.

Contactless Payments

This past year’s Summer Olympic was a beta testing exercise for a number of new programs. We witnessed troops deployed en mass for the first time to marshal the international sporting event and new facial recognition technology tested to monitor its attendees. One of the chief sponsors of London 2012 Olympic was VISA, used the event as a springboard to launch its new ‘contactless payment’ technology, acclimatising the international public to making routine payments via smartphones. VISA now predicts that this new method will carry 50 per cent of its transaction volume by the year 2020.

Mastercard has also rolled out its own version called Paypass, and Barclaycard has already implemented its own mobile phone payment chip in 2011. It conceivable here, that a bank like Barclays could one day takeover a major mobile service provider in order to streamline the endless profits it could accrue from monopolising cashless payment facilities for its customers. A recent edition of Marketing Week further explains how this is program is being rolled out:

“Barclays launched Pingit this year, a mobile payment service that allows customers to send and receive money with a mobile phone number, which has sparked The Payments Council to work on a similar project. And the three leading mobile operators in the UK – EE, Vodafone and O2 – are working on a joint project under the name Weve, one of the aims of which is to develop standardised technology for ‘digital wallets’ on mobile. These industry innovations reflect the changing attitude and behaviour by consumers to cashless payments. Barry Clark, account director at Future Foundation, which identified the trend towards a cashless society in its recent report into the changing face of payments, explains that this move towards digital is a “banking nirvana” for brands, since replacing cash with electronic payments takes high costs out of the system.”

These mobile enablers will effectively cover the small services and contractor’s market for the cashless society. In addition, digital payment terminals like iZettle and Square (created by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey), have brought in most small traders, including taxi drivers, plumbers etc, and street side retailers – meaning that the barrier for entry into the new cashless society has been effectively dissolved.

The Socialist ‘Oyster’

The darker aspect of a cashless society, is one which few are debating or discussing, but is actually the most pivotal in terms of scial engineering and transforming communities and societies. In London, the electronic touch payment Oyster Card was introduced in 2003, initially for public transport, and since that time the card has been co-opted to be used for other functions, as the UK beta tests the idea of an all-in-one cashless lifestyle solution. Ironically, and alongside biometric chipping now in India, it’s the United States, supposedly the birthplace of modern capitalism, who is beta testing its own socialist technocracy.  As the ranks of the poor and unemployed grow and dollar inflation rises in America, more and more people are dependent on traditional ‘Food Stamp’ entitlements in order to feed their families. The US has now introduced its own socialist ‘Oyster’ to replace the old Food Stamp program. It’s called the ‘EBT’, which stands for “Electronic Benefit Transfer“, as a means of transferring money from the central government to people living below the poverty line. Advocate Mike Adams for Natural News describes it another way:

“EBT benefits have more than doubled during the Obama administration’s last four years, creating tens of millions of new dependents who now vote based almost entirely on who gives them the most handouts. The purchase of vitamins is specifically prohibited by the EBT program. This is done as a way to keep EBT recipients sick and diseased while suffering from nutritional deficiencies, which is precisely what the federal government wants. EBT cards create high-profit handouts to corporations, too: Pharmaceutical companies and the sick-care industry; Big Government which gets re-elected based on entitlement handouts; global banks which earn a percentage off every swipe; and even the processed junk food industry which preys upon nutritional ignorance of the poor. In fact, for every dollar’s worth of food handed out to EBT recipients under the program, at least 50 cents is driven right into the profit coffers of wealthy corporations.”

Adams has pointed out the endgame here. Where collectivist technocrats are concerned, a global digital currency is not only a means for a centrally controlled economy, but also a centrally controlled society. And as Adams also pointed out, they can even control what you eat. There’s also the small matter of  the Verichip, or ‘class 2′ implantable medical devise, an RFID chip already set to be implemented through Obamacare. It will transmit medical records, bank accounts, keyless entry and much more. The technology could be a $100 Trillion industry over the coming decade.

Bottom line: We’ve got a big problem when the state can – and will cut-off your electronic financial lifeline should you fall foul of the system. No negotiations, no gray areas – and definitely no place for a free individual in this type of globalist system.

Social Networks Gradually Supplanting Real Communities

In 2011 Facebook launched its own virtual currency, which was taken up immediately by the games developer industry. Facebook created it’s own internal digital market overnight. If customers didn’t like it, they had two choices – jump ship, or stay in the biggest market place. That’s a lot of power to wield, and you can wield it if you have the big numbers.

A severe lack of choice in the world of online communities has unwittingly(or not) positioned Facebook to play the roles of not only data collector, but also as banker, retailer, archivist and governor.

As 2012 comes to a close, many people have certainly become, in one way or another, sans border citizens of the Facebook Nation. In the future, one corporation or cartel’s success in capturing a near global monopoly of membership to a particular online platform might give it the ability to dictate a digital  economic mandate to both producers and consumer.

The digital data industry now claims in a recent study by fast.

MAP,
that consumer confidence in sharing personal information has risen. But the reality is that most people do not know which data is being used and to who it is being shared or sold to. Most users are unknowingly trading “access” to networks, as well convenient speed of registration – for data privacy. We do this on a daily basis now. It’s a question of speculation at this point how deeply the new digital currencies will be integrated into social networking giants like Facebook, or Second Life - where users are already buying virtual property with virtual currency, but few can deny that the potential for consolidation in the early 21st century is already there.

History Will Repeat Itself

Whenever the status quo is seen as a failure, the architects of society will rarely allow the whole show to come to a grinding halt, for fear that new and non-centrally controlled organic systems of organisation will emerge. The ruling establishment will spare no opportunity to tell society this, over and over, making people truly believe that it is in their best interest to adopt whatever alternative is handed down to them. This is why, when faced with a crisis, society will almost always seek to implement a parallel alternatives, rather than rethink the whole system.

In 2008, the public had an opportunity to collapse the predatory banking system that has been trading insolvent and gambling on thin air. But the very same ruling establishment who engineered the crisis to  begin with, masterfully presented their own solution as the remedy by establishing the precedent of the state bailing out any gambling losses incurred by the banking community.

In the end society relented, and with help of pro-banking political leadership on both sides of the Atlantic, they adopted the pre-packaged belief that a cluster of bloated and corrupt financial institutions were simply too big to fail. Aside from being a massive redistribution of wealth upwards into the hands of the speculative elite classes, this was merely a test by the establishment to see how far they could go in robbing the public, pushing up inflation, hoovering up real assets, robbing pension funds and enslaving taxpayers to generations of debt the bankers created – all in one swoop.

It has long been the dream of collectivists and technocratic elites to eliminate the semi-unregulated cash economy and black markets in order to maximise taxation and to fully control markets. If the cashless society is ushered in, they will have near complete control over the lives of individual people.

The financial collapse which began in 2007-2008 was merely the opening gambit of the elite criminal class, a mere warm-up for things to come. With the next collapse we may see a centrally controlled global digital currency gaining its final foothold.

The cashless society is already here. The question now is – how far will society allow it to penetrate and completely control each and every aspect of their day to day lives?

Doorstep Interview: DJ ‘Hairy Cornflake’ denies any and all involvement with Jimmy Savile’s empire of abuse

In a doorstep interview posted on Youtube online this weekend… Former BBC DJ Dave Lee Travis this week told of his fury at being ‘sullied’ by association with the Jimmy Savile child abuse investigation. The former Radio 1 DJ denied any wrongdoing after being released by police investigating accusations of sexual assault made by two women dating back to the late-1960s. He said the case against him amounted to nothing more than allegations of ‘fumbling’, adding: ‘I do not want to be sucked into anything that talks about paedophilia.’ Standing at the gate of his £1million home, he told reporters: ‘I’ve been talking to the police about sexual — I don’t know what to call it — in the old days they called it putting your arm around someone and giving them a cuddle”. ‘I think that sometimes us guys who are a bit older are, shall we say, tactile — which is not a terrible thing to be. In the old days you put your arm round someone and gave them a kiss or a cuddle, yeah, that’s fine. Nowadays you’d have to stop to think — is this an assault? ‘Now I’m not saying that I haven’t put my arms around someone and I’m not saying that any of this is right or wrong at the moment. But I’m just trying to get the facts out…’ The 67-year-old DJ continued: ‘Things were different in those days… those were lax days.’ Several claims have already been made that Travis groped women colleagues in the 1970s and 1980s. TV and radio broadcaster Vivien Creegor claimed he ‘jiggled her breasts’ while live on Radio 4 in the 1980s. Mrs Creegor, 55, claimed Travis clamped his hands over her jumper as she made a live announcement. Travis categorically denied any wrongdoing and said he was surprised the allegations were being made now.facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

The Paedo Files: MP, Bishop ‘Pillars of the Community’ Abused Kids

By EMILY ASHTON and LAUREN VEEVERS

Legendary MP Sir Cyril Smith was dramatically unmasked as a paedophile in the Commons yesterday.

MP Sir Cyril Smith

The Lib Dem heavyweight was blasted as a perverted “29st bully” — in a debate on the abuse scandal rocking Britain in the wake of the Jimmy Savile revelations. Hushed MPs heard how the lifelong bachelor, who died aged 82 two years ago, left victims “quivering wrecks”. The revelations were made hours after child sex probe cops arrested an ex-BISHOP who is a friend of Prince Charles. Retired Bishop of Lewes and Gloucester Peter Ball, 80, became the most senior member of a suspected Church of England paedo ring to be grilled about boy victims as young as 12. Police also revealed a BBC radio presenter is to appear in court accused of preying on children. Michael Souter, 59, was yesterday charged with 18 offences against young boys. Last night the Beeb refused to comment on the allegations against the former Radio Norfolk host. In the Commons MPs were aghast at the revelations Cyril Smith got away with abusing youngsters for years. Like depraved BBC DJ Savile — who died last year — the MP was dogged during his life by rumours he targeted youngsters. And just like Savile, cops investigated him — but no action was taken…

Anglican Bishop Peter Ball with Prince Charles

Labour’s Simon Danczuk — Smith’s successor as MP for Rochdale — said as he lifted the lid on the scandal: “Young boys were humiliated, terrified and reduced to quivering wrecks by this 29-stone bully imposing himself on them.” He demanded: “Why was this ever allowed to happen?” And he hit out at a “culture of cover-up” that he said “extends right to the heart of our political establishment”Read more at the SUN RELATED: Are Secretive Cabals Keeping Us in the Dark Over UK Child Abuse? http://21stcenturywire.com/2012/11/17/are-secretive-cabals-keeping-us-in-the-dark-over-child-abuse/ facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterest

Dante Voltaire: ‘Future Tense’ – The Rising Expectation of Global Change in 2012

Dante Xavier Voltaire Guest Columnist 21st Century Wire Sept 11, 2012 Here we are in September. The great sigh of relief the aware world breathed when the London Olympics drew to a safe close in mid August has finally been completely expelled and new inspiration drawn after the Paralympics closing ceremony on 9/9/12 passed quietly. The problem is the next suspicious date is today, 9/11/12. Folks not in the mainstream ‘consensus reality’ are still wary, watching out for False Flag style evil shenanigans in London. A ’9 11 event’ would be the third in a series of significant 911 events, starting with Bush Sr ‘announcing’ a new world order, followed a decade later by the collapse of the Towers, an ’action,’ and now comes what? The three 11′s add up to 33, and that is the highest degree of freemasonry (at least that’s what they tell us). Since we had the announcement and then action, this ’9 11′, according to the theory, should symbolize the actual beginning of the NWO, so watch out. Next in line is the 17th of September. I want to point out that there will be a series of these dates and potential white knuckle anticipations going into the final Mayan day of this 5000 or so year age – 20th December – AKA the ‘End of Time’ (21st December is the first day of the incoming age of Aquarius). Major events could unfold on any day leading up to this, and indeed any day after… while the secret of an elite controlling world affairs is pretty much out, the deeper conspiracies and depths of that control are still emerging. We don’t as yet know whether the predictions themselves are preventing possible False Flag events, or whether they may even help create one. ‘US AND THEM’ The lines between ‘them’ and ‘us’ are narrowing as the realization of shared co-creative reality seeps ever further into human awareness. Just as the likes of Newton and Copernicus laid the foundations of a material/scientific worldview, Quantum Physics is filtering into mainstream awareness and diluting, even dissolving the current paradigm before our very eyes. The process is enhanced by the digital communications potential and the resonance of Quantum concepts with ancient and esoteric schools of thought. Why are so many of us involved in this phenomenon, and is 2012 really a transition or is it becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy? The interesting thing is, there are many unusual events unfolding which bear a remarkable resemblance to so-called ‘End Time’ prophecies. Lets make a little list of what’s going on right now: Strange Sun Activity: includes fluctuating activity, previously unseen phenomena, strange giant objects and solar weather shocks. Strange Weather: unprecedented weather, strange events and climate anomalies, records broken daily. Strange Geological Activity: ring of fire burning bright and increased geo-event frequency and magnitude globally. Strange Phenomena: weird lights and sounds, vibrations, mysterious substances, blood rain and rivers, zombie attacks. Strange Animal Deaths: dead fish, birds frogs and crabs falling from sky, burned fish and dolphins. Volatile Markets: no one has a clue what to do or what will happen next so all markets edgy and volatile. Struggling Currencies: dollar and euro doomed, what is next? Global Crop Failures: weather anomalies lead to crop failures worldwide. Increasing Government Powers: reduced freedoms and rights and incitement to revolt by authorities. Fake Wars and Stealth Invasions. Nuclear posturing and jostling for position in the Middle East. Now, looking at the list, it does seem a little apocalyptic. Let’s not be negatively selective here. The increase in awareness and understanding in the general population is incredible right now. The end game is on between ‘those that would control’ and ‘those that would be free’, and it’s pretty racy stuff, especially if you try to sense the currents of energy flowing across and in between realities right now. The very concept of what reality actually is - is falling apart, and the reality-based paradigm is struggling to maintain the essential credibility and believability required to maintain a hold on the masses. It’s set to go anywhere and unfold rapidly. The much vaunted ’shift’ is definitely underway, but where will it all end up? NUCLEAR TENSION We have the specter of nuclear war imminent, but the fear and tension felt during the Cold War is not apparent in the same way now. Along with Fukushima, the revelation that entire nuclear reactors and countless tons of toxic radioactive waste have been dumped into the sea by both former superpowers, along with factors like political and financial chaos worldwide, means that nuclear war may not hold the same the fear factor it once held. It’s almost like people are so overloaded they don’t care any more what happens. That’s likely exactly where the elite want the masses, but I am not sure they have calculated in the factors of ‘cohesiveness under duress,’ where hard times bring people together in cooperation. Sympathy and compassion rise as all suffer. Hard times are generally very healing for broken societies in the long run as the false and disposable factors of life are exposed by the deeper needs for survival and co-existence. So are they hard times or beautiful times coming? It’s a matter of perspective… CHANGE IS AFOOT I have always sensed that true change would be experienced as ecstatic by some and tragic by others – obviously so, if the balance of power is leveled – but there is more to this than mere vested interests and enforced poverty. The new paradigm suggests we are all in it together in a much more complete way than has been recognized thus far. It seems to be emerging that the poor needy and suppressed must change their perspective of programmed poverty consciousness to re-empower themselves, and it doesn’t look like they will get much help from the power brokers. We are all in the same position, if we can embrace the new paradigm perspective on life we can free ourselves of the mental shackles used to keep us under control. This won’t be handed to us. We have to go get this, and it’s an internal process that leads to external changes. NEW PARADIGM CONSCIOUSNESS The gist seems to be to step out of being in a point between the opposites of duality. In other words, being able to encompass the range of possible states between opposites. Instead of being hot or cold, you can experience all states between hot and cold simultaneously, embracing the entire potential rather than being at a point in it. What if your arms are cold and you legs are hot? Can you experience both and embrace the difference as an experience? Can you be depressed and ecstatic simultaneously – well yes you can, if you can embrace the appropriate consciousness that allows this, and allow is a big word in this field. ‘ALLOW IT’ It seems you will not experience what you won’t allow yourself to experience, but who is doing the allowing? The subconscious mind filters out anything you have decided you don’t believe in, and a well programmed subconscious can be used to make people strictly adhere to a conditioned reality, ermm, look around you. There is more, much more to be perceived right now than you are seeing, but you won’t allow it… We can’t perceive it all because it would be overload for the conscious mind, but we can learn to allow more to be perceived and learn to CHOOSE OUR PERSPECTIVE – a very, very scary thing for the elite, as they continue to rely on choosing our perspective for us - mwahahahaha. MWAHAHAHAHA! Food for thought…?
