‘BURN IT’: British Officials Told to Destroy Report Showing Iraq War Was Illegal

21st Century Wire says…

Another week, another piece of evidence supporting a war crimes case.

Watch a video of this report here:

It has been revealed that Attorney General Lord Goldsmith told British ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair on the eve of the Iraq War that the attack could be challenged under international law.

This is what Ministers and officials in possession of Goldsmith’s report were told:

Burn it. Destroy it.

A senior British official told The Mail:

There was pandemonium. The date when war was expected to start was already in the diary, and here was Goldsmith saying it could be challenged under international law.

Top government officials were then said to be ‘sent to work on’ the Attorney General, who subsequently published a one page legal opinion ten days later saying that the war could be legally justified.

Tony Blair’s office has since issued this statement:

This is nonsense as far as Tony Blair knows. No one ever said that in his presence and in any event it would be quite absurd to think that anyone could destroy any such document.

This quite obviously reveals that Blair believes the public is stupid. In a world of scandals relating to documents of all kinds, it is absolutely not absurd to ‘think that anyone could destroy any such document’.

Moreover, just a couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Bush and Blair secretly colluded to plan the Iraq War one year in advance of it taking place; a complete affront to democratic values.

Yet, for argument’s sake, let us for a moment believe that this incident did not happen and the report did not exist.

Head of International Politics at City University London, Dr. Inderjeet Parmar, says that:

The more significant point is that both President Bush and Tony Blair knew full well Iraq had no WMD arsenal and tailored evidence to support a predetermined strategy of regime change, to knock out Saddam Hussein’s regime that threatened broader Western interests in the Middle East.

Therefore, the central issue remains no matter what else comes out about the war – they lied about WMDs. So will they ever be held accountable?
